Amazon.co.uk Review

The 2003 version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre adheres to the pure-and-simple slasher-movie formula: introduce a gaggle of sexy young people, make vague gestures to distinguish them--Jessica Biel wants to get married and doesn't like pot, so she's our moral compass--then start hacking them to pieces one by one. The visual palette includes grimy crucified dolls, fly-specked pig carcasses, body parts floating in murky jars, a tobacco-chewing redneck sheriff and many slender beams of sunlight cutting through dank, dusty interiors. The camera lovingly photographs Biel's tank-topped bosom and sculpted abs as she's running in terror from a bloated, chainsaw-wielding, human-skin-wearing maniac. This remake lacks the macabre comedy of the original; it's all about the nauseating sensation of waiting for something to jump out of the dark. --Bret Fetzer

When the film was first announced, I have to admit I was VERY sceptical about the whole thing. One of the best films in horror history was about to get the remake treatment. Well, the day came and went, the film was released, and I saw it. Never have I been more pleasantly surprised. This was as good, if not better, than the original (I actually prefer this version now....). No matter - if you like this film or not is a different thing alltogether when it comes to rating this Blu-Ray edition.

It's great. Simply great. The transfer is STUNNING, to say the least, with incredible detail.
Highly recommended if you like Horror, remake or not.

The film itself is incredible, a very worthy remake of a horror classic and 10 times better then most of the horror remakes made after it. Anyway, less about the movie and more about the Blu Ray. This film looks stunning in 1080p in contrast to 480p on the DVD version(which I also have). Every detail is pin sharp, including facial shots where you can see the finest details (e.g. hair, sweat etc.). Landscape shots look excellent and vivid. All in all the picture looks great. Horror films are perfect for Blu Ray, it helps enhance the experience a horror film gives the viewer, with the gruesome details more sharper then on a DVD and the terrifying sounds much more clearer too, it makes you feel like you're right inside the movie.
All in all a great film to experience on Blu Ray and with a reasonable price, it is most definitely worth buying.

The hype that surrounds 'Texas' is certainly warranted. The film is unsettling and horrifying giving a situation which presents a continuous nightmare. However, the film is not simply a blood and guts gorefest, instead the film shows little or no blood - and this is where the film succeeds on many levels. Your mind is left to see what is not being shown, and this in its self is more scary than anything that can be shown on screen. As regards the comedy aspect of the film which is much talked about, I must say I couldn't see it myself, but the film was not less powerful for it. Fans of Straw Dogs, will certainly enjoy this film, as for the duration you are struggling to understand the depraved family it portrays. A superb example of how to create a truely scary experience. Nonetheless, even without any blood you will need a strong stomach, the violence is almost relentless for the last hour and at times seems all to real - but again a must for all horror fans.
