Product Description

Product Description

Testosterone therapy can improve the overall health and feeling of well-being of aging men, improving sex drive, mental functions, and energy levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.--Library Journal

From the Author

This book has a unique view of the Male Menopause
Although the Male Menopause is viewed as a change in sexuality, there are far reaching effects of testosterone deficiency in every part of the body which results in accelerated aging and increased risk from major degenerative diseases. The book documents the medical literature supporting these facts. It also outlines the many types of therapy available and which common types are not effective. It is written in easy to understand language. It is the definitive work on the Male Menopause. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The hypothsis of this book is that testosterone - or rather the declining effective levels of it we experience, is the key factor in causing us to lose energy, vitality and sexual desire as we age. Its a very interesting argument that most men will relate to once they get past 40 - and therefore with out doubt of great interest to many. The book is readable and informative. The author, an MD specialising in testosterone therapy marshals clinical research and anecdotal evidence to support his argument. As well as describing how declining testosterone negatively effects us, he also goes on to say exactly what we can do about it, and what we should discuss with our doctors (not that these things affect me - I read it for a friend of course! ). The good news is that there is a lot that we can do. Want to be bonking at 90? This book will tell you how. Definately a compulsive read for men who take an interest in their own health and want to live their lives with the energy and drive of their 20s and 30s.

As a physician specializing in male hormonal replacement, I have read many books on the subject. I find "The Testosterone Syndrome" to be the definitive book on the restoration of healthy levels of testosterone and estrogen. Dr.Shippen has written a book not only grounded in scientific facts but one that is enjoyable to read. Low testosterone is something every man will face in his life time. This is the book to tell you what to expect and what to do about it. I recommend it to all my male patients who are beginning to notice signs of aging.

Current age: 67. At 63, I had a PSA test result of 6.3 (ideal is less than 4) and my prostate was found to be enlarged. Was I going fall foul of the dreaded prostate cancer? Based on this book, I started taking Saw Palmetto extract and Zinc. Within 3 weeks my PSA was down to 4.3 and the gland was back to normal size; two weeks more and I was down to 3.2. On my referral to the urology clinic, the specialist told me that I had already started on the treatment he was going to recommend. Four years later my PSA is 2.9 and all thoughts of prostate cancer are put away for good.
