Since its publication in 1979, the reputation for this book has grown. So much so that its re-issue last year was welcomed, especially by all those people who had to search second hand bookshops for a copy.
Well was it worthy of such high regard. Yes, the photgraphy in the book captures the Teddy boys in all their glory. The feeling of something exciting is happening in virtually every shot. There are of course many shots where the Teddy boys and girls are posing for the camera in their Edwardian gear. But as they are such distinctive clothes, the images are very striking. In particular the cover photo of the two "Teds" symoblises the whole look of the book. The photgrapher has captured that distinctive look, and frozen it the moment in time. The majority of the pictures are taken in the 1970's when the Teddy boy revival was at its peak, but its the real Teds that have survived from the fifties that give the book its heart. Although it us heartening to see so many younger people embracing the Teddy boy look. Their Brylcreemed hairstyles and drape suits the only that connect them with the past.
Great text too!!
