Amazon.co.uk Review

Initially one of NBC network's most successful series, The A-Team ran for 90 one-hour episodes (with a few feature-length specials thrown in) from 1983 to 1987. The premise of the series was certainly different. A group of US operatives is sent to rob the Bank of Hanoi during the Vietnam War in an attempt to destabilise the country's economy, but the bigwig who organises the raid is killed, leaving no indication that the mission was officially sanctioned. Returning home, Smith (George Peppard), BA (it stood for "Bad Attitude") Baracus (Mr T), Face (Dirk Benedict) and that "crazy foo" Murdoch (Dwight Schultz) suddenly find themselves accused of criminal activity, obliging them to set up as benevolent mercenaries. They tear around the country in what looks like a delivery van, generally do-gooding while keeping one step ahead of the inept military police.

Snappy, witty and fast paced, the series began as a spoof of the action-thriller genre. It wasn't until the later episodes that an element of seriousness crept in, which may have caused the decline in audience figures eventually resulting in the show's cancellation. On video and DVD though, it remains a feast for fans of classic cult TV.--Roger Thomas

More A-Team finery 29 Mar 2004
Format:DVD
The second A-Team DVD fails to be as magnificent as the first, but is great nonetheless.
‘In Plane Sight’ sees the A-Team attempt to exonerate a pilot who has been set up by a cocaine smuggling ring. The episode begins rather slowly, and Murdock’s early attempts at sanity aren’t much fun. But when he begins to be his old mad self again, things quickly improve. Hannibal is also on top form, formulating a plan that is ‘brilliant and foolproof’, improvising with a killer duck impersonation when things go wrong, and flashing a cheeky wide boy grin when all is right. There’s an exciting plane/car chase and cars flip over all over the place. But best of all is that classic A-Team motif – rendering B.A. unconscious in order to get him to travel on a plane. The method used this time, via Judy (the cousin of the accused), is hypnotism. This has rather amusing side effects!
‘The Battle of Bel-Air’ is the undoubted highlight. It may feature the debut of the irritating Tawina Baker, but this at least gives Face the opportunity to turn on the sleazy charm. As Tawina is being pursued by ‘Intermode’, an organization planning on assassinating an Arab oil magnate (by air missiles!), this leads to Face being thrown of a hotel balcony. Add to this the staple helicopter chase, Murdock’s ‘Battle of Britain’ allusions (hence the title) and Hannibal’s superior ankle-tapping skills foiling bumbling nemesis Colonel Decker and you know we’re onto a winner.
‘Pure-Dee Poison’ is only a very good episode. The plot, the A-Team is called in to sort out a gang poisoning car radiators, is agreeably silly but doesn’t allow much scope for OTT action. Plus Tawina, settling into her role, is annoying throughout. Still, any episode featuring a madcap plan to steal Nitrous Oxide from a dentist, B.A. getting intimate with a woman (yes!) and our heroes being locked in a barn that happens to contain everything they need for a breakout is good in my book.
A must-buy for all A-Team fans.

The only possible critism of this edition is that there are again only 3 episodes! and any A-Team Fan will agree with me when i say that after 1 episode you are just left wanting to see more.

The 3 episodes are very entertaining as the gang get involved with cocaine smuglling, Moonshine operations and have a visit to Bel-air in between.

Personally i like the second episode best where the A-team yet again are so close to being caught by Decker!

The Unique chemistry between the 4 charecters is appealing let alone the gripping themes and story lines.

I will continue to buy thelatest A-team Releases.
