4.0 out of 5 stars a very good introduction 26 Jan 2007
Format:Paperback
a very good book for the newbie, but offers a very large range of useful spreads and practices for the more experienced reader. The cards themselves are very well illustrated, with good modern interpretation. One great thing about this book is that it introduces the idea that the cards have different meanings in different parts of the spread and goes a little way into the context of other cards, something which some of the more advanced texts do'nt do.
in the introductory section it offers a good guide for using tarot in a modern context and practical tips such as storage and keepng decks and the section at the back provides useful tips on journaling and how to get the most from your readings. Some of the spreads work very well ideed.
What would make this book even nicer, especially for the beginner, is if it was available with a deck of its own especially as the one in the illustrations is so nice, but then again there are so many nice ones available that this is not a major issue. A very good reference book.

Format:Paperback
This another offering from the Godsfield Press series (check out the Crystal Bible & Angel Bible). This book is the ultimate reference guide - a balanced blend of just enough introductory information for beginners with plenty of ideas for spreads, use of crystals, numerology and astrology to keep the more adept interested.

Each card has 2 pages dedicated to it - usually the left hand page carries a large picture of the card (Rider Waite deck used) with some key words, the right hand page gives you the meanings of the card including what it means in various positions ('you' ' querent' 'future' 'crossing' etc etc).

The book is split into two clear parts. Part 1 deals with Tarot Basics:

*what the Tarot is and isn't

*history

*how it works

*pyschology of tarot

*choosing/ looking after cards

*brief guide to the different decks and list of recommended

Part 2 deals with:

*tarot Directory (cards and meanings)and covers Major and Minor Arcana

*spreads

*sample Readings

*using astrology, crystals, numerology and further reading ideas

There is quite a comprehensive section on spreads:

12 suggestions for everyday spreads

10 suggestions for relationship spreads

8 suggestions for destiny spreads

12 suggestions for revelation spreads

+ sample readings for every single suggestion

I would say that this is definitely an essential for beginners but is also fabulous for the more experienced. The book is generally well laid out and colourful and makes for pleasant and interesting reading. One of the best books on the Tarot.

This is a very comprehensive book that would suit any beginner as well as more advanced readers. It covers what is tarot and how to use the cards, detailed meanings for all cards,a wide range of spreads plus a guide to meditation. It is a nice handbag size which means I carry my copy with my cards all the time. The bible series also includes books on crystals, angels and aromatherapy - I'd recommend all those.
