Product Description

Triple bill of films directed by Quentin Tarantino. 'Pulp Fiction' (1994) melds three dime-store stories set in lowlife LA into one cohesive thriller. Butch (Bruce Willis) is an over-the-hill boxer paid to take a fall, who instead does a runner with mobster Merselius's (Ving Rhames) money. Meanwhile, Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are two hitmen who aren't having the easiest of mornings, and Pumpkin and Honey Bunny (Tim Roth and Amanda Plummer) are two would-be bank robbers who are planning a heist in a restaurant. The film won numerous awards including the Golden Palm at Cannes and an Academy Award for Best Screenplay. 'Jackie Brown' (1997), based on an Elmore Leonard novel, is a twisting homage to the black action movies of the 1970s. Air stewardess Jackie Brown (Pam Grier) also smuggles money on the side for gunrunner Ordell Robbie (Samuel L. Jackson). When she is caught with $50,000 and a consignment of cocaine, she makes a deal with Ordell: if convicted, she will not shop him as long as he pays her $100,000. Meanwhile Jackie also makes a deal with the cops, promising to help convict Ordell, and enlists the help of bail bond man Max Cherry (Oscar-nominated Robert Forster) in a daring attempt to outwit both the police and Ordell. Tarantino's first film, 'Reservoir Dogs' (1993) is a shocking and funny look at the aftermath of a jewellery robbery that has gone violently wrong. Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth and Steve Buscemi are among the stars making up the team of robbers - Mr Orange, Mr Blue, Mr Pink, Mr White - who meet at a warehouse after the failed heist and attempt to work out who is to blame. The film features the famous ear-cutting scene and a classic 1970s soundtrack.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, nothing special. 6 April 2006
By HF
Everyone who hasn't been sleeping under a rock for the last 10 years will know of the outstanding quality of the films in this box set, so it is not for me to review the movies here.

This box set, is however, slightly less impressive. The box itself is so-so at best; more or less average carboard box with a picture of QT's ugly mug on it.

The editions of Pulp Fiction and Jacky Brown are both great - loads of extras and loads of disks.

The Reservoir Dogs edition is the basic no-frills version. If you are into your fancy boxes and billions of hours of extras, then you might want to check out one of the various special editions that are available on Amazon at good prices. **Note: I notice that it says there are 6 disks included in this box set. When I got mine a couple of years ago there were only 5 - two each in Jackie Brown and Pulp Fiction and one in Reservoir Dogs. I can't say for sure but they may have upgraded the Reservoir Dogs version in this set.

If you like Special/Collectors/Limited/Whatever editions of your DVDs, buy them separately, that way you will be sure of getting the right editions.

If, on the other hand, you like boxes or are generally indiferent and only care about the movies, this box set is a not-bad deal.

Hope that helps.

Fantastic contemporary gangster movies with an extra star for missing out the annoying Kill Bill movies from the collection.

pulp fiction is, in my opinion, one of the best films ever made and reservoir dogs is again a fantastic film. the only problem with this product is jackie brown which i found rather boring. you should remember that this is a bargain and should not be missed.
