Product Description

Product Description

Who better to take the traditionally underground art of DJ mix tapes aboveground than Funkmaster Flex, New York City's mainstream hip-hop radio hero? This album is the quintessential hip-hop party album, ripe with ear candy. Talk back to call-and-response tracks from DJ Kool, Frankie Cutlass, and Doug E. Fresh. Remember when with classic hooks from Run DMC, Marley Marl, Special Ed, and the king of all mix-tape loops, Mark the 45 King. Bounce your head to drop-in freestyle raps from hip-hop's biggest East Coast names (Method Man, Erick Sermon, Q-Tip, and Lauryn Hill, among others). If you can stomach Flex's own persistent presence--he self-promotes on Mix Tape, Volume 1 almost as much as he does on his late-night radio show--you will appreciate this shrink-wrapped, extended party jam. --Todd Levin

Funkmasrer flex is a new york DJ and has a weekly radio show on HOT 97 which is a hip hop station.
This is his first 60 minute mix album and to be honest his best. He cuts and scratches from old-school classics to r & b with ease, Producing wicked beats and a true head nodding flava. Check out the KRS One accapella on the last track. Flex is obviously well respected and with good cause! I advise everyone to buy a copy of this and play very loudly on saturday afternoons!

Talk about old school....If you remember tunes from 4 years ago then you will dig this album. The mixing and scratching is just awsome and the rappers are all truely established peeps!!!!!! I paid full price for this album and it was worth every penny!

both the above reviews are spot on. this album is worth its weight in gold to the budding dj (if it doesn't destroy their fragile egoes with flex's mighty skills ;)

go flex! 13 April 2000
By supastar - Published on Amazon.com

The highlight of this cd is worth buying the whole thing for, and that is the acapella Shook Ones blended with "WuTangClan aint Nothin to F**k With" The rest is pretty good. Like the funk flex show with cussing allowed. The freestyles by busta rhymes, +Fat Joe and Big Pun ("you make me sick to my stomach, you dont really want it, riffin like you sniffin coke to scare me but you barely blunted") are also great. (give me a helpful review, dammit!)

Much better than The Tunnel, this mixtape has good beats 9 Mar 2001
By Stan Lathrop - Published on Amazon.com

Funkmaster Flex's first mix tape is much better than his later ones. The beats are great. Method Man, Redman, Fugees, Mobb Deep, you name it some of the biggest hip hop groups are featured on here. The beats on this album are excellent. This is definetly a must have for any fan of Flex or rap.

From DC 2 Philly thru NY to CT, What the clubs R made of! 27 May 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Flex does with this CD! I'm a club head and at the present time I'm in Japan. The club scene is just a little different here, but I put on FunkMaster Flex Vol. I and it's on! The crowds here go crazy when they hear REAL EastCoast flavor, and who better to deliver than the FunkMaster himself?!!!
