Product Description

Horris Kew, conjuror and confidence-trickster, has returned to the Magic Kingdom of Landover, and a chorus of disapproval immediately assaults Ben Holiday's ears. Both Questor Thews, the Court Wizard, and Abernathy, the Court Scribe (currently, magically transformed into a dog) urge Ben to lock him up or exile him. Fair as ever, Ben decides to consider the problem rather than act immediately. Alas, this leads to disaster, for Horris's return is not what it seems, and Ben soon finds himself in deadly peril. Only his lady, Willow, holds the means to save him. But Willow has disappeared on a mysterious mission of her own...

By far the best 23 Jan 2004

Format:Paperback
With Abernathy safely returned to Landover a Ben and Willow expecting their first child everything in the Kingdom of Landover seems great. However at the arrival of Horris Kew things begin to go horribly wrong. Willow leaves Ben in order to go and gather three different soils, one from her home country in the South, one from Bens world Earth and a third from the fairy mists which are perilous to enter, in order for their baby to be born. Meanwhile Horris Kew (on instuction of the Gorse) has transported Ben, Nightshade the witch and Strabo the dragon into the tangle box in which they loose all sense of their identity and their lives before all waking up in a glade together. Horris also sends Questor and Abernathy back to earth out of the way (and since entering the gateway into Landover is prohibited to all those except the wearer of the medallion) Questor and Abernathy have to find a way into Landover to help save their King. Enter an old friend (Elizabeth) to help them. All three storylines come to a dramatic conclusion in which the fate of Landover rests. The best in the series and fantastic in plot and characters.

By far the best in the series. Characters, plot, settings all shine throught this novel. Once I started I could not put the book down until I had finished. The very obstacles the characters had to endure, to face, and overcome are so real and exciting, that you too will find the book hard to put down. You should read the other books in the series to better understand what is going on here, but make sure to read this one, you won't regret it.

fantasy epic 2 Sep 2010

Very, very good. Not too gothic, has quite a modern slant, being placed in this world and the faery. I couldn't start reading the whole story until I had all of the volumes sitting next to me, as I knew that I wouldn't be able to wait for the next volume to arrive. Love this man's stories.
