Product Description

Product Description

The Takeaway Secret is a book which will enable readers to cook their own tasty takeaway food at home. After over 5 years of research and investigation, the secret ingredients and cooking techniques used by takeaway and fast food restaurants can now finally be revealed. In today's increasingly health conscious and now financially cautious world, there's never been a better time to learn the secrets of cooking your own takeaway food at home. From now on, the takeaway menu will become an inspiration to cook, not an expensive option for dinner. Some of the recipes which can now be faithfully recreated at home include Lamb Donner and Chicken Kebabs, Chicken and Vegetable Pakora, Szechuan Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Wings, Spare Ribs, Triple-Decker Burgers, Chicken Burgers, Spiced Onions, Kebab Sauces, Sub Rolls, Wraps and many more. Many recipe books call for an extensive and expensive list of ingredients, often interesting to read but impractical for everyday cooking. The Takeaway Secret will stand out as the modern cookbook, ideal for a generation of people who desire delicious food, delivered quickly without the need to slave over a hot stove for hours on end. The recipes included make it possible for home cooks, both novice and professional, to recreate their favourite takeaway and fast food restaurant dishes in their own kitchen.

About the Author

At the age of 19, Kenny McGovern was diagnosed with what's known as 'Social Anxiety Disorder' and eventually became too ill to carry on working. As the years passed, he became almost housebound as a result of his illness and as such lost touch with many parts of life which although enjoyable are often taken for granted. Simple pleasures such as buying a nice sandwich from a local cafe or going out for a meal became impossible for him to do. As a result of this, and because of his love of food and cooking, he eventually took to trying to recreate many of his favourite shop-bought foods at home. 'If I can't go to McDonalds, I'll make my own,' was his philosophy. Over a period of five years or more, he has tested and tweaked many, many recipes, his new hobby quickly building into an obsession.

We purchased this book as a present for a friend who is addicted to takeaway food - it was purchased as a bit of a joke at his expense as he's lived on takeaways for years but the recipes included in the book have so far been amazing!

Our friend tried the chicken pakora the first night we gave him the book and ended up having to make a 2nd batch to satisfy everyone who was present at the time - since then we've tasted the chow mein, szechuan chicken, south indian garlic chilli chicken and egg / bacon breakfast muffins and they have all been absolutely amazing!

The recipes we've tried have all been easy to make but the results far outweigh any of the cooking skill needed - the pakora in particular was unbelievably good but the others we've tried also really do what they say on the tin and more importantly, the dishes we cooked up really did look and taste as good as most takeaways!

This book has got 4 of us hooked on cooking since it arrived, next on the list is the southern fried chicken!

I would highly, highly recommend this book and urge anyone who buys it to really give the recipes a go because they are utterly amazing!

I belong to a forum on Money Saving Expert and though I had purchased this book some months ago, I have been following a thread devoted to Kenny's wonderful book.

I have to admit that I have so far only tried the Doner Kebab (to die for) and the American breakfast muffins which are so authentic and like the real thing. It is only a matter of time that prevents me from working my way through this book. I will do it though!!

I am editing this to add that the potato wedges are greatly improved with the addition of some mixed herbs (I use Asda smartprice ;/). Also if you cannot get the garlic/onion powder easily they can be bought off Ebay and you get much more for your money than the S. markets.

I have also now made the chocolate cookies which are a cross between a cookie and a cakey style biscuit. Very nice though.

The recipes are so easy to follow and once you have bought your relevant herbs and spices pretty cheap to produce. A lot of it can be stored in the freezer and store-cupboard so deciding to have a take away can be a fairly instant decicison.

Buy this book. It will save you loads on your take aways. There must be a few take away owners drumming their fingers on the counter tops down to Kenny's great little book.

I read/heard somewhere that this book was the most authentic at replicating takeaway food. So, I took a look at the reviews & noticed how reviewers were raving about the tried & tested recipes.
I decided to order via Amazon Kindle for my Dell Streak as I'm so impatient. This little gem was sent straightaway to my phone.
I already had some minced lamb in the fridge & the exact herbs/spices needed to make the doner kebab. So, I got straight to work, followed the recipe & as the doner kebab meat cooked away in the oven, I got a whiff of kebab meat wafting through the kitchen!
I wrapped the kebab meat in foil as instructed but left it until later that night. Sliced up the meat, shredded some cabbage, carrot, onion & cucumber, made the "red kebab sauce" - amazingly authentic too! & built up the kebab's. I made 4 kebab's on pitta bread & they were so, so tasty. A lot less greasy than takeaway bought ones, so I'm guessing a hell of a lot healthier too!
Cheeseburgers - Fantastic too, so much like the McD's I prefer to use the frozen burger buns from Iceland & wrapping the completed burger in foil is a must to get the exact flavour!

Very simple and clear instructions that are easy to follow, and the end result is very good! Would be even better if they have picture of the dish.
