I read this book just after publication in 1997, although I recently bought another copy as mine had become heavily annotated with penciled comments. I have read it again and I would advise all to do likewise. I remember briefly meeting the author some time before publication and he was kind enough to share with me a few of his thoughts on Europe - some to appear later within The Tainted Source. John Laughland's conversation was intelligent, perceptive and very well informed, and I regarded him as a most sincere man.
As Britain now nears a very critical 2015 British general election Laughland's book, if widely read, would be extremely beneficial to UKIP and all who appreciate the honest and long-standing democratic and social freedoms from which the British people have extracted much strength and encouragement. History has shown that we have thrived as a creative, exploratory and embracing race within a wider world largely because of these freedoms of thought and deed and the confidence that will ever be freedom's child. The Tainted Source encapsulates and defends this forgotten truism.
If you truly love the free will that God gave you use to think, speak, act and live out your lives, without fear of tangible interference from the malevolent thoughts, wants and needs of the corrupt and fraudulent EU beast power that has now most definitely risen in Europe, then you must digest this brilliant and highly readable account.
John Laughland makes clear in his exhaustively researched volume the dark, warped, bitter and envious origins of today's European Union, even despite its rather ineffectual and muddled look today. He also hints at its future political and social intentions, which, by definition, simply cannot be as honourable as EU apologists maintain.

This superbly written book shows the Euro project as it really is; the desire to abolish European nation states; to exert control over all aspects of human & economic behaviour; to create a protectionist trading bloc. Detailed research shows the contempt shown (particularly by the French) of genuine free trade, and the political motives of the so-called European Court. Anybody interested in freedom & democracy must read this book.

This is a superb book, very well researched, in depth, and with many expositions of important and interesting related topics along the way of which I had little or no previous knowledge, eg the Classical Gold Standard and the effect on world economics of its being abandoned at the outbreak of WW1. But of course the central topic is the EU and how many developments which we are currently witnessing such as the single currency and a Central Bank had already been planned by Hitler or even earlier. Throughout WW2 a common Nazi theme was that the 3rd Reich was, in effect, actually doing Europe a favour and that the other European countries should gladly embrace a united Europe, whilst acknowledging Germany as the strong centre of it. Sounds familiar?
