More About the Author

"Anne Zouroudi writes beautifully - her books have all the sparkle and light of the island landscapes in which she sets them. Lovely, delicious prose and plot - as tasty as one of those irresistible honey-soaked Greek confections." - Alexander McCall-Smith.

'The Bull of Mithros' is currently nominated for the Coventry Book Award, and Anne's work has received wide critical acclaim. She has now been nominated for three national prizes and in 2012, she won the East Midlands Book Award for 'The Whispers of Nemesis'.

Greece's people, culture and myths inspire Anne's current novels - the Mysteries of the Greek Detective, featuring crime fiction's most enigmatic detective, Hermes Diaktoros, whose origins are as much a puzzle as the mysteries he solves.

Anne grew up in Yorkshire, has lived in the USA and Greece, and she currently lives in Derbyshire's Peak District. However it was the beguiling, bewitching world of Greece's beautiful islands, where Anne lived for many years after marrying a Greek fisherman in the early 1990s, that have inspired her marvellous Greek Mysteries Novels and allowed her to write authentically about the Greek people, Greek food and culture and the Greek islands themselves.

I ordered this on my sister's recommendation, and was not disappointed.
They are fast-paced, not too gruesome, and I love reading about the Greek characters, who are very well drawn.
3.0 out of 5 stars Good story, annoying details 7 Mar 2014

This is the only one of the series I have read. I don't plan to read more. While the story is readable, I found the author's frequent sly hints that there is something supernatural about her protagonist (unsupported by any specifics) to be annoying. I was also irritated by her continual reference to him as "the fat man", especially since at one point she says he isn't all that fat. I also thought there was an excessive amount of detail about things that didn't matter, tho maybe some readers will appreciate that as atmosphere.
4.0 out of 5 stars Detection or Fate 30 Mar 2013

The Greek detective knows not only the most delicious and traditional wines and food, but he knows how to psychologically address human vices. Most of the villains are given justice, not from the law but rather the Fates working on their natural flaws. The depictions of Grrek life are vivid. There's a great deal of irony in all that happens. A minor detail involves a fisherman who is given the opportunity to farm; even with the perks could a true lover of his boat, solitude, and fishing be happy on land?
