Taking on Electronic music in any form and projecting it's complex structure into a different genre never usually works. Symphony Jean Michel Jarre already proven that this can be done. The compositions are just well composed by the incredibly talented Nic Raine. Even in moments, you actually think that certain tracks (including Computer Weekend) are actually better than the original, thanks to the addition of steel band drums and the wonderful hint of the Calypso jive. It really is the wonderful versions of Chronologie, Equinoxe 4 & Acropolis that bring this CD to life. Even if you arent a Jarre fan, this really is one Symphonic album worth buying.

This is a better album than you would expect, considering most orchestral versions of synth music sound insipid compared to the originals. Here the choice of music is obviously the result of much thought, and on the whole successful. Jarre fans will find it fascinating. The tracks from Chronologie and Revolutions are perhaps the most successful. A few tracks include some synth which is unfortunate, as it lessens the whole 'symphonic' feel of the album. Overall though its a fine album and a worthwhile addition to any Jarre fan's collection.

Without wanting to take anything whatsoever away from the Jean Michel Jarre originals, this album proves that some of his work could really have been written and worked for orchestra. Chronologie III, Equinox IV, Magnetic Fields V (The Last Rhumba - stick with it, it gets better!), Industrial Revolution Overture, Magnetic Fields I (in particular!!!), and many more - they can all be listened to in a totally different "light" when performed by an orchestra. Its not better - its just totally different, and so worthwhile. Whilst we wait for the new studio album next year, this is a very valuable interlude.
