Another week, another 60s compilation, at least that what it feels like.

This one comes from the newly merged Sony/BMG group (that's CBS and RCA in old money) and the American connection is reflected in the fact that only a third of the tracks are by British artists. Strange, then, that the cover photography is all images of the British end of the Swinging Sixties - Carnaby Street fashion, the Mini, a Union Jack guitar and a Dansette record player.

The music inside is all classic stuff and in itself beyond criticism. Sound quality is good too - as they used to say, Groovy, baby. To help it along it includes tracks much in the public ear through their use in TV commercials - Thunderclap Newman, Fleetwood Mac and Willie Nelson, to name just three. Nelson's version of Bring Me Sunshine is the closest we get to a rarity, all the other songs have appeared on these sort of collections before.

You could argue that the running order is a bit odd, as if someone has randomly picked the 60 titles out of a hat. Several great sea chnges of pop style happened between January 1960 and December 1969 and, for example, the sequence of Neil Sedaka, Ramsey Lewis, Billy Fury, Union Gap and Skeeter Davis is a bit too much zipping back and forward.

But I nit-pick. When it comes down to it every single track here is gem and absolutely peerless. Even if you've already got half of them on other CDs it's still well worth the wonga.

This review relates to the 18 track single CD product of this title. There is also a 3 CD compilation of the same name which DOES contain the original hits. Amazon seem to have mis-linked and confused these two products.

Even listening to the previews of the 18 tracks on this single disc on the Amazon website one can tell these are NOT the original hit recordings - they are later re-recordings, or perhaps out takes of the original hits.

A couple of them are quite good performances of those original hits (well done The Tremeloes), but most are pretty dire. I listened through all the samples and - as I have original singles of all these hits - I can definitively say NONE of them is the original original hit record.

I'm surprised at Amazon for carrying this turkey without a "not original hit recordings" warning on it. I thought they cared about music.

Looking for a compilation of 1960's music this is great, a good mix of the music of my teenage years.

I have just recently bought this great little cd three set for a family member, and what a good little set it is. Sixty tracks all in, and it really is a bargain, a 2005 release on the Sony Bmg label, and hardly a dud track on it. The two odd tracks might be by Willie Nelson & Skeeter Davis, as they would normally be regarded as country singers, but this is still a great little selection. Amazon have this set in new and used formats, my copy is a used second hand version, in VG condition, in fact more like new to be exact, and it only cost me under three pounds. It really is a great little set and I have no qualms in recommending anyone who is a fan of Sixtie's music to check it out, you will not be disappointed. Yours, Mrs. M Walsh. "Maw"

This is a set of 3 discs. Each disc is great, normally the makers put some uncommon tunes on but this is all good !!
