5.0 out of 5 stars Smart and Simple 5 July 2010
By cc
Format:Hardcover
There are so many books about increasing sustainable practices that it is hard to know where to start. As a complete novice, I often felt overwhelmed by the amount of text dedicated to this topic. At last, Giselle Weybrecht has compiled a simple and easy-to-read guide to green management. Her tips and tools should appeal to both the uninitiated and the well-informed in sustainable practices. What's more, her tone is sympatheic and enthusiastic - she does not repremand or cast aspersions. I also appreciate the practicality of her book; she presents a solid business case for her suggestions and demonstrates that sustainability can be profitable. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who has even a passing interest in sustainability.

What a great book - it's so easy to overcomplicate the sustainability debate, in particular when it comes to what we can do as individuals. "The Sustainable MBA" gives a fresh look at the way sustainability issues affect the various departments within a company, and also is full of tips and tools on how sustainability can be incorporated into any job, in a way that anyone can understand (from the CEO to the new recruit).

5.0 out of 5 stars Business viewed through the sustainability lense 20 April 2014
Format:Hardcover|Verified Purchase
There is a lot of terminology in business, known as strategic discourse and is designed to confuse people 'not in the management circle'. This book provides an overview of pretty much all of the topics and terminology that you would study on an a business course, explains it in plain English and puts it all in one place.

It isn't 'really' a text book, but kind of. Put it this way, I am studying an MBA in Environmental Management and refer to this book frequently. It does not fulfill the role of my other text books but what it provides is an overview of the relevant concepts and as much detail as you would require to delve deeper into the topic, or at least, sound knowledgeable about the topic.

If you want to know how to manage a business in a 'green' or sustainable way then this is the best all in one book. It covers areas of all modules that a 'standard' MBA would cover and then puts a green/sustainable context to it.

If you are studying business or are wishing to improve the environmental performance of a business (from waste and resource management to behaviour change) then this book is a really good starting point. Even where it doesn't have sufficient information it refers you to relevant external resources.

The book concludes with sections on how you can make changes within an established business, which may be where most people will find value in the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars An innovative and helpful book 15 Dec. 2009
Format:Hardcover
What I liked about The Sustainable MBA is that it does not attempt to point the finger or put the blame on the business community for all the problems associated with the environment. Instead, the author takes a much more innovative and constructive approach by pointing to examples of how many multinational and SME companies have taken a leading role in promoting sustainable business practices within their own operations and how they have been rewarded for doing so through increased returns, employee pride and positive consumer and community responses. In a tone that is constructive, rather than critical, the book provides a wealth of concrete measures companies can employ to become leaders in the field of sustainability and benefit by doing so. The book is indeed a "manager's guide" but it is also a book that anyone with an interest in sustainability can relate to.
Small Business Entrepreneur,
Zenon Franczak
