Very Good 24 Oct 2005
Format:Audio CD
Marcus Miller is first and foremost a bassist. This does not take away from the fact that he is a multi-talented instrumentalist who can play almost any instrument he picks up.

Marcus Miller has also worked with almost every outstanding musician over the last twenty six years from the days of Grover Washington Jnr through to Miles Davis.

Here is a man many regard as one of the outstanding musicians today and you get to hear what a true musician should sound like.

This was his first album for PRA Dreyfus. The Japanese version has Lalah Hathaway on the last track and it a gem.

For this album he has recruited a few of the many musicians he has worked with over the last few years

A stellar cast of musicians appear on this album They are:

Andy Narell, Dave Sanborn, Everette Harp, Hiram Bullock, Joe Sample, Jonathan Butler, Kenny Garrett, Kirk Whalum, Lalah Hathaway, Lenny White, Michael "Patches" Stewart, Michael White, Miles Davis, Omar Hakim, Paulinho DaCosta, Poogie Bell, Tom Browne, Tony Williams, Vernon Reid, Wayne Shorter and Will Calhoun.

Marcus uses this album to pay homage to a number of musicians he feels indebted to namely: Jaco Pastorious , Steve Wonder and Miles Davis.

I shall stop shy of nominating one track over the other as this is a very good album and a starting point if you want to know what he is all about.

If You Like Funk 18 April 2007
Format:Audio CD
And you appreciate brilliant musicianship, check this out. I'd put Marcus right up there with Stanley Clarke & Jaco. Miller is a brilliant Bassplayer and, in my opinion, probably one of the best slap players of all time. I bought this album because I loved his M2 album. His rendition of Jaco's Teen Town is awesome.A must for any serious Bass collection.
