I really didn't know what to expect when I ordered this, its a long time since I bought any Fred Frith except for getting Gravity Gravity on CD a couple of year's ago as my vinyl copy is relegated to the attic. That (Gravity) is one of my favourite albums of all time, so I thought it was about time I took a bit of a risk and got something from Fred's more recent work.

On first hearing the opening tracks I regretted it as the immediate impression was one of meaningless banging and doodlings. Gradually however the music beguiled me into a quite intriguing world of texture, and rhythms. I don't think I'll play it often, but I'm glad I bought it.

Like a fine wine, it improves with age 24 Feb 2008

This disc confounded me when I first bought it. As Mr. Frith says in his liner notes, the music is essentially stitched together from the sessions documented in the film Touch the Sound, and has a segmented, disjoined quality about it. It demands to be heard on its own terms, and it took about a half-dozen spins before began to really appreciate its unique sensibility, its way of suggesting continuities... Once I did, though, it was like turning on a light in a dark room...
I enjoy this disc a lot, and recommend it to all who are willing to challenge the way they hear, rather than to have their present tastes reaffirmed. For those who already hear music in everything around them, this will be a welcome communion.
