Synopsis: One of the best known Philadelphia soul groups of the 1970s, The Stylistics were originally made up of Airrion Love, Herbert Murrell, Russell Thompkins Jr, James Dunn, and James Smith. Much of their material has been covered by various artists in the succeeding years, including Prince, Sugababes, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Boyz II Men and Mary J Blige. Their popularity in the UK grew in the mid seventies when their single You Make Me Feel Brand New reached #2 in the charts in 1974, and Can t Give You Anything (But My Love) topped the charts a year later. This DVD features 17 of their hits, from Betcha by Golly Wow to I m Stone In Love With You. Also included is an interview with the group, as well as behind the scenes footage. Format:DVD
This is a really good DVD and clearly shows the professionalism of the Stylistics but there is only one way to get the full atmosphere of these guys and that is to see them live. Only serious fans of the boys would play this over and over again (as I do)but worth buying.

Not As Good As Being There...

I've seen The Stylistics in concert twice within the last two years (Valentine's Day tours) and was very pleased with both their performances (NYC & Rochester, NY). This DVD left me a little 'flat'. It seemed to me that they were just going through the motions and that certain intangible quality in the lead singer's voice appeared to be missing. Although both times, I had seats that were not considered the best, the live performances I attended had a "presence" to them that was undeniable. The video quality is okay.
The "interviews" on the disc were more enjoyable for me than the concert footage was. but oh well... it was still good to pop it in and try to relive the moment once again.

The Stylistics: In Concert 2005 The stylistics in concert 2005 is indeed a great show.
I saw them around the late 1970s in vancouver b.c. at the cave supper club with their lead vocalist
russel thompkins jr.It was a fabulous show for all who attended. I was alot younger then and so was the stylistics.
The dvd concert 2005 shows an older stylistics with a perfect replacement of russel thompkins jr with that incredible falsetto that is a joy to see and listen.
fans of the stylistics would love this dvd concert.
