This text book explains the basic of the most important linguistic element interestingly and clearly. I enjoyed reading the comparisons between English and other Indo-European languages upon different linguistic levels. There is an exercise section, at the end of each chapter. I find the exercises, especially all the study questions, very useful, when reviewing the contents before my examinations at the end the course.
When reviewing this book retrospectively, I find the semantic section contains the most challenging reading, mostly because English is not my first language. A good on-line dictionary, such as the Oxford dictionary is needed.
