Product Description

CD Description

Next to The Hep Stars, Tages (pronounced tah-gez)
were Sweden s biggest band in the 60s truly as big as
The Beatles.
Hipper than the competition, they were always
evolving and musically sensitive to the changing times.
Originally released in 1967, Studio was their fifth
album. It became Sweden s very-own Sergeant Pepper.
Instead of drawing on the music of India though, they
found inspiration in traditional Swedish music this
psychedelia has a unique slant.
Never before released outside Sweden, RPM
International s special issue of Studio supplements the
rare original album with all the non-album singles they
recorded in its wake. Of these, Fantasy Island is worldclass
pop psychedelia, as classy as The Hollies' efforts in
this area. Halcyon Days was specially written for them
by Peter Frampton (then in The Herd).
Fans of psychedelia will finally have the chance to hear
this landmark album. Accessible and tuneful, yet freaky
and psychedelic too, the adventurous and melody-filled
Studio is a must for anyone with even a passing interest
in music of the era.
The booklet will include an exclusive interview with
Tages' songwriter Göran Lagerberg.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Swedish Psyche 27 Sep 2010

The Tages will be familiar to many due to the inclusion of some of their work on the Rubble and other 60s psyche collections. Very often the album fails to match the quality of single tracks and is padded out with filler, not on this occasion though. There are many recordings here of genuine interest and quality for those with a love of 60s rarities and psychedelic music. Well worth exploring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Quality Psych Pop from Sweden 7 Dec 2011
By Michael
This is a really great album of Sergeant Pepper-era psych pop which escaped the attention of a lot of people at the time but which is now deservedly receiving it. Every track on the album is great, and the bonus tracks are interesting too. The songs are generally well-written, melodic, use an array of interesting instruments, several have the obligatory backwards guitar and echoey vocals, and are all likeable in one way or another. I wasn't expecting much when I ordered this, now I'm surprised that I hadn't heard this fantastic album before.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem 28 Oct 2011

I read about the band in "Shindig" some time ago and, as usual , I was a little tardy in following up on what I had picked up on. I have a friend who is fond of saying "you should always leave something for later". It could not have rung truer in when first listening to this. It brings to mind a cross between Billy Nichols "Would you Believe?" and The Action's "Brain" demo's. A lot of similar reference points to the latter in particular and the optimism of Nichols' work. I found it a real treat to "discover" this for the first time. "She's Having a Baby Now" and "She is a Man" are both stand out tracks. The sleeve notes reveal that some recording work was done at Abbey Road ,although by Hollies producer, Ron Richards rather than Mr Martin, but a strong anglophile connection exists. Do not hesitate to invest your cash, if you like quality 66-69 pop/ pscyh fare this will not disappoint.
