'Poor and desperate lives transformed by the power of love shown in deed and truth. Sarah has lived what Jesus preached.' (Jackie Pullinger )

Product Description

Through a series of remarkable events, Sarah de Carvalho left her glittering career in film promotion and TV production to join a missionary organisation in Brazil. There she met children from the age of seven living on the streets, taking drugs, stealing to survive and vulnerable to prostitution and gang warfare.

This is the remarkable true story of a life transformed. It tells of the incredible work that Sarah founded in the Happy Child Mission. It is a story of immense faith, suffering and love. The children whose stories are revealed in this exceptional book will change the heart of every reader.

This new fully updated edition of THE STREET CHILDREN OF BRAZIL brings the story up to date. Fifteen years on, Sarah celebrates the anniversary of the founding of Happy Child, revisits some of the first children she worked with, and reflects on all that God has done.

Format:Paperback
As someone interested in Brazil this book opened my eyes to what I'm sure many people do not realise exists. The extremities of the wealth and poverty are so real in Brazil and told marvellously in this book. However it's not all doom and gloom as can be seen through the work of Sarah, her husband and the many volunteers that help to keep some of the kids off the street. It's been great to see how far some of the children first taken in by Sarah and her 'family' have achieved so much. Before reading this I'd never read a book that can make you cry one minute and so full of joy the next, if you don't believe in a God then this will help you on your way.

Wonderful! 8 Nov 2003
Format:Paperback
I have read this book twice now. It both inspires and challenges me. The way that God breaks into Sarah's life and turns it upside down is remarkable. One minute a succesful woman in TV, the next in a foreign country living in a favela (shanty town/slum). Amazing!
I find the book inspiring in the way that God changes her life and causes her to become a servant to the kids, by just loving and caring for them.
The way the book challenges me is in how I realise that we (myself included) can so easily read a book like this a do nothing more than feel sympathy for the kids and think of Sarah as a hero, when there are millions of children living on the streets around the world with no one to love or care for them. I thank God for people like Sarah & Joao, I just wish there were more of them to do what they do!
I would highly recommend this book.

Totally inspiring 13 Aug 2005
Format:Paperback
I've just finished reading this book and in three days time I'm going back out to Brazil to work with street children in Fortaleza at a similar project to the one in the book. The way God has answered prayer and has used Sarah and others to be his hands and feet on the streets of Brazil is amazing. The book really shows what really goes on in Brazil, but it also shows how each of us can help in some way. Don't look at poverty as a massive problem, think of it by helping one child at a time. If you've helped one child -you've made a difference. Throughly recommend you read the book, but be warned that God may speak to you through it!
