An extremely useful 'intro' compilation to a great, long-standing melodic rock band, containing 32 stunning tracks on 2 cds, selected by Dave King (of Classic Rock magazine fame). Covering 16 years of the band's output between 1978 (listen and wonder at the always stunning 'Kingdom of Madness' which still ferociously ends their live sets today) and 1993, it includes rare versions and 'B-sides' that collectors yearn after. It's perhaps no coincidence that it has emerged at roughly the same time as the band's own comprehensive discography laid down in the excellent 5-disc set 'The Gathering' and their brand new studio album 'The Visitation'.

Magnum fans (like myself) will feel the need to include it in their collection, despite probably already owning all of the tracks and variants proffered here. The good news is that the compilation is very generously priced, includes some intelligently written and informative sleeve notes and will not disappoint the casual or intrigued newcomer. Highlights (for me) include 'Soldier of the Line', 'When the World Comes Down On You' and the epic, astonishing anti-war song 'Don't Wake the Lion'.

I bought this and it brought back very happy memories of seeing Magnum live several times when I was a teenager (I've got a signed Micky Barker drumstick somewhere!). All the good ones are on here, especially some classics off the Storyteller album, which was one of the best. Def recommend if you are a Magnum fan.

I recently bought this after not hearing Magnum for about twenty years. I had Chapter and Verse on casette but thought this was a better replacement and it is. With two cds it is excellent value and the choice of material is good.
It does have an Eighties feel about it with lots of layered keyboards but it still stands up today.

The only glitch here (on my copy at least) is that the track listing pressed onto th cd1 is not the same as the cd itself or the inlay card so transfering it onto my mp3 cd1 comes up with a different listing with tracks such as The Teacher, Back to Earth, On the Edge of the World, The Battle and others which aren't on either cd. Cd2 is correct. Not a real problem but I can't understand how they made such a mistake.

If you want to revisit Magnum, for £6 for a double 'best of', you can't go wrong.

A must for Magnum fans and others who may like Magnum's music. An excellent compilation album of their work through the years.

Now I'm gonna be a wee bit controversial here and say that I think the band's newer albums are the best they have ever done, but this collection shows the best of their past. There are no surprises here, but what you get brings back a lot of memories of a vastly under-rated band.

Most Magnum fans are likely to have everything on here, but it's a great introduction to those who don't know the band too well.

A lot of the compilation albums focus either on the earlier Jet years, or solely on the time after leaving that label, so frustratingly it often proved difficult to find something that had all the tracks I wanted to listen to. Although I would perhaps have changed 1 or 2 of the choices (I can always find room for How Far Jerusalem) it's a very good double album - it doesn't include the more recent albums (Alice, Moonking etc) but it's still worth getting at a really good price.

I have been a fan of Magnum since the eightees. they are amazing and i can not believe I only got to hear them first from a friend at work who was playing one of their CD's. Well i now have 6 of their albumbs and love them all. What a fantastic rock band they are. I would love to see them live.
