3.0 out of 5 stars Overly Simple... Not Enough on Process & Mechanics 3 Jan 2014
By Jacob Hunt - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I suppose this is fine for someone who has next to no concept of the industry. I guess my education in sequential art rendered most of the info "no-brainer" type stuff. I was really hoping for a closer look at the actual mechanics, work flow, process, language, logistics, etc of actually creating the storyboards themselves. The other info is good. But like I said, just a little too obvious.

3.0 out of 5 stars ok but has flaws 21 Nov 2012
By nesco79 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is somehow geared toward the complete beginner who has basically never heard about storyboarding. The information is quite sparse but it's on spot.

I'm giving it only 3 stars because it has many editorial errors; words are, literally, missing and some diagrams and pictures dont offer sufficient explanation imho.

I found it somehow strange because i have close to 15 books wich are published by MWP and are all very well edited but this one, i have a feeling, it was throughly rushed.
It's still good as an easy introduction to the craft.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best look at the storyboarding industry as a whole 15 July 2012
By gabriel bishop - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I approached this book from the perspective of a professional artist who was recently approached and asked to join a feature length film production team as a storyboard artist.

Now I knew from my past experience, that working in the film industry can mean swimming some pretty murky waters. I wanted to know, ahead of time; before entering into negotiations, contracts, and the like, just what it was I was getting my self into.

Enter "The Storyboard Artist" By Giuseppe Cristiano. I found it at a bookseller and after flipping through a few pages I knew that I had exactly what I wanted.

I purchased the book and was finished with it by the end of my international flight. Upon completion I realized that my first impression of the book had been completely exceeded.

- A MUST for all involved in film/TV production
- Easy to read
- Great overview
- Excellent illustrations
- Easy to navigate for reference

The overview of the industry was complete and written in a compelling yet easy to read style. The layout was eye-catching and Illustrations alone gave me much to feast on. The organization of the book leads me to suspect I will return to it often as a reference while working in the storyboarding industry.

I have spent much time researching my career switch and I am convinced, nothing out there can prepare you for the storyboarding industry like "The Storyboard Artist."

I recommend this to anyone with an interest in pre-visualization. Film producers, directors, art director and, of course ARTISTS.

This book should be required reading for students in Film and TV schools. I think too many fail to grasp the value of good pre-visualization. I know from my past works that most if not all of our problems could have been solved with better planning. Maybe Giuseppe's book could change that.

4.0 out of 5 stars storyboard your future 22 Jun 2013
By Leonel L. Rossi - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Its a good and quick read on how to be a storyboard artist- different chapters on different types of storyboard jobs- what are the materials you should use and even how to charge for a job!! This is a must have for anybody that's thinking about using their drawing skills to enter into this field that according to the author, is an untapped career choice. I just didn't care much for the horizontal printing format it makes it difficult to carry around and when your finished, put on your shelf and have on the ready for a quick reference.Any ways, you visual story tellers should invest in your future by picking this one up.
