This series was on on BBC around towards the end of 2008. It was absolutely brilliant and indeed the best series I have ever watched. It is filmed at many different locations across the world and tells the story of maths since the beginning of man kind. The man telling the story is an academic but he may well have been an oscar winning star or an artist. He tells the story with the most astonishing clarity. The subject is of course itself fascinating but he has told it like no body else. It does not matter if you are a novice or an acomplished scintist -you will find it equally intersting.

A brilliant series which accomplishes the unique alchemy of combining absolute scientific precision, clarity and perfectly balanced dynamic tempo of the story telling: not to fast so as to obscure the math concepts and not to slow so to induce boredom on behalf of the viewer. This together with thorough explanation of the historical context in which the theories flurished, combined with pitoresque but extremely pertinent annedoctes of the persons behind the science makes this work superb!

Simply beautiful! 13 Mar 2009
These two DVDs are simply marvellous! The story of mathematics presented in a high-quality production with an inspiring Marcus Du Sautoy at the places where it really happened! I have seen the DVDs several times now and they remain fascinating.
