This is a darling, sweet story about a lady in a small village who tells stories to a group of local children. One day when the lady notices that one of the children needs new socks, she decides to unravel a bit of the story blanket (the blanket that the children sit on while they listen to her) to knit the child's socks.
The blanket shrinks and shrinks as the lady (anonymously) makes more bits of clothing for people in need until one day the village people realize what has been going on. At this point, all the villagers unravel bits and pieces that THEY no longer need to give back to the lady so that she can make a new story blanket.
The Story Blanket gently reinforces the ideas of sharing, looking after one another, community, recycling and charity without being preachy.
AND the pictures are amazingly beautiful! They are delicate yet bright and very memorable.
Great book for any age and for a gift!
