Although I live in the midlands I surf on the north coast of Devon as often as I can and always plan family holidays around some kind of available surf.
I first bought a Storm Rider book out of curiosity to see what it had to say about my favourite breaks (Croyde & Saunton) and see how accurate it was. And I was surprised at just how accurate the info was. What I like about these books is that it doesn't tell you about every secret spot out there, which is kinda nice. Respect to the locals, and if you're keen enough you'll find them yourself - all part of lifes adventure.
I also like the way it advises on local 'hostiles' at certain breaks. Always a good thing to know, even if you do go in regardless, at least you can show a bit of extra respect and maybe not be so greedy when everyone is queuing on a point break and you're the only new face in the water.
Eventually this particular book has become my bible, used to plan all family holidays and I've had a couple of cracking ones - all with the help of this book. Sagres in Portugal, brilliant, and as described and bloody good for spongers too. Biaritz, as described and busy as hell, but with the book and a hire car, a few quieter spots further north were lovely.
I've now also bought the one covering Oz and again had a great holiday in Noosa and Byron bay - all based on advise in advance from this book. Totally recommend all of the Storm Rider books.
