I purchased this with a little trepidation. 'Nico' I'd seen too many times. 'Fire Down Below' I'd never seen, and I was a bit disappointed his terrific 'On Deadly Ground' wasn't included. However, after finishing watching them all, it was terrific entertainment. Reviewing them in the order they come in the set:
'Nico' - a very enjoyable post-vietnam martial arts/conspiracy thriller by the director of 'The Fugitive'. Violent and well told.
'Out For Justice': this surprised me as when I saw it years ago I thought it was rubbish. On second viewing it's actually a very enjoyable revenge thriller with some very brutal action.
'Under Seige' - Seagal does Die Hard on a Navy battleship but with the amusing twist of being an ex Navy SEAL who everyone now underestimates since he's now just a cook. Exciting, a little patchy but has some fantastic action and Tommy Lee Jones as a very amusing bad guy.
'Under Seige 2' - for me a more solid film. Same cook/killer humour, more vicious bad guys and a story that manages to make a very exciting virtue out of it's 'Die-Hard on a train' scenario. Ludicrous but terrific.
'The Glimmer Man' - a fantastically inventive cop thriller with a silly serial killer side-plot but a good main plot with some great bad guys and amazingly brutal action. Also a terrific buddy star in Keenan Ivory Wayans.
'Executive Decision' - almost a cameo movie this one for reasons you'll know if you've seen the film, but a fantastic terrorism thriller with a terrifically played bad guy by David Suchet.
'Fire Down Below' - a superb gently paced actioner with Seagal's EPA cop investigating illegal toxic dumping in a far better written and more emotional story than I was expecting. Elevated by Marg Hellenberger's great romantic interest role, a side role from Stephen 'Avatar' Lang, and a good bad guy by Kris Kristofferson. A rare 'thriller with morals' that manages to be neither patronising nor predictable - in fact just the opposite.
'Exit Wounds' - Seagal's disgraced cop chases DMX's drug dealer as he investigates corruption in an interesting thriller. This had a better plot and better action than I remembered from first viewing, and features a terrific role by action star Michael Jai White.
Fantastic collection very much worth owning.
