More About the Author

Awarding winning investigative journalist and author Gavan Naden worked on local and national newspapers for several years (he was one of the first to uncover the racist nature of the Stephen Lawrence murder) infiltrating Long Lartin prison and The Mechanics Pub in Deptford High Street.

When writing his first book "Frances" he travelled to Scotland to meet Frances Shand Kydd (Princess Diana's mother) and tried his hand at fly fishing. It snowed during both events and he now appreciates a t-shirt is not appropriate winter wear.

Later he flew to Seattle for the book "Lilac Days". Arriving at a trailer park (...and a bottle of whisky later) he was handed a sack of letters written by Princess Diana's grandfather - Lord Fermoy. They formed the basic of the book detailing the affair between the aristocrat and his American lover.

"Burrough Hill Lad" written with access to trainer's Stan Rileys memorabilia was shortlisted as one of the Cross Sports Book of The Year 2015.

More recently and still riding his bike, he has taken to playing guitar.

Starr Child deals with a very serious and sensitive subject in a way that does not shirk clarity
The Starr family have to face probably the most difficult decisions of their lives -and the book takes us through their individual responses to their final mutual understanding which helps them all to grow
The writing -beautifully flowing freely - carries one along in a stream of conscious understanding and recognition.,
It is a book which should not be ignored

5.0 out of 5 stars A very original and gripping book 14 Sept. 2012

Format:Kindle Edition
The Starr child begins with a passionate all embracing love affair between two very differsnt people. The tension between them is palpable as they meet , fall in love and marry. The events that follow seriously challenge this intensity as they struggle to face what must be one of lifes most serious decisions
The writing takes on a life of its own as the Starr Child narrates -with what can only be described as a poetic stream of conscious flow - which carries the reader along above and beyond the events of our everyday lives .
This is gripping and unusual book and should be read and appreciated.

I don't think I have ever read anything like this before. :) Well written and kept me interested in the story. Not really scary, but a little on the freaky side.
