If you are on the look-out for children's books that break the mold of empty and garish tales that mostly fill the shelves - you might want to take a look at this one. The egyptian story of creation - itself a truly beautiful vision - is told as a love story between the earth and the sky. The language is sinple and easy to understand without being dull and the illustrations are absolutely beautiful. Also worth a look by the same team is 'The Stone: A Persian Legend of the Magi'.

My daughter is learning about myths and legends in school so we picked this book for her studies. The pictures are beautiful and the story tells of the Egyptian gods and goddesses that are the elements of our world. It's a much more spiritual view of creation - the earth was not created simply to serve man, but born out of relationships between the sky, the sea, the moon, etc.

Great alternative reading for those looking to provide a more rounded and open-minded foray into religion than the standard christian stories metered out in schools.
Fantastic pictures, beautifully written.
At times a little too wordy, and with themes/imagery of intimacy which may require some discussion, so probably more suitable (in my opinion) for 6+ years. The whole concept of how the 'gods' were manifest may also require some understanding.
