The Lost Priests of Morcyth

Through the machinations of an old enemy, James is summoned to appear before the Royal Court of Cardri. While in Cardri, Ellinwyrd the Archive Custodian aids him in deciphering the riddle discovered in the city of Saragon. Unable to bear the message himself, Ellinwyrd sends a scroll upon which is written a single word, Ironhold.

His quest in search of Ironhold leads him to the mountainous region in northern Madoc. There, he discovers the ruins built by the last priests of Morcyth when they fled annihilation by the followers of Dmon-Li, as well as a secret that's been hidden away for centuries.

An old friend resurfaces from a place of darkness and new allies join to aid him on his quest. Growing in aptitude and versatility, James encounters his most challenging situations yet!

Disappointing 2 May 2011
By Matthew
Format:Kindle Edition
I wanted to like this book.

The two main characters are likeable and it is in a genre where imaginative ideas count for more than literary skill. I have cheerfully waded through clumsier prose to follow a griping tale - but this is not one of them.

The plot is predictably predictable, and the few interesting twists were signalled in advance to remove any chance of us actually being surprised. I did finish it, but found it unrewarding, so this is not a series I will stick with.

Excellent story continues in this book. Many answers and still more questions make this book so difficult to put down. Again. Just keeps getting better and better.

Story Driven 2 May 2011
By Chimeric - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
The Morcyth Saga is a perfect example of story-driven writing. The author writes in present tense, but somewhat erratically. Writing in the present tense is difficult for the best of authors, but only somewhat annoying here. One gets used to it, if he can suspend that irritation for the sake of the story. There are many typos and preposition errors. Many situations are a little too pat and most of the characters are one-dimensional.

However, that being said, I am interested in the story and the writing flaws are not (yet) numerous or onerous enough to abandon it. Pratt has imagination and good storytelling instincts which I hope he will nurture and not neglect to improve his writing skills at the same time.

Lord Colerain--I wish he'd just kill him off!! 23 Feb 2007
By Kevin Davenport - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Here several plotlines from previous books intersect. You see a return of Lord Colerain. He arranges for James to appear before the Cardri High Council to answer charges an Ambassador of the Empire has put forth. I wish that James would just kill the man or something, get it over with. At times this streak of morality that James has can be annoying. He won't just kill someone and be done with it.

Miko comes into his own as he works with the street kids of Cardri to keep track of the Ambassador's comings and goings while awaiting James' trial. Some of his kids get kidnapped and after a thrilling sea chase, they get them back. The sea chase is one of the better parts of the book I might add.

You also see the return of Serena, the fortune teller who told everyone a demon had possessed James. Things there have deteriorated badly and evil's presence has a solid foothold in her. Thankfully, James deals with that.

Full of twists and excitement, this is one of the better of the books of the series. You won't believe who shows up! I won't give any spoilers, but this person is incredibly annoying to everyone but James. When you get to the end of the book, you'll understand why I say, "Thank God!"

Another good installment by Pratt. I've read the whole series and the next two books are good additions as well.

One of the things about these books Pratt has written that I like is that they don't have any explicit sex or evil behavior. that's not to say it isn't in here, it's just tastefully done. Bravo Mr. Pratt. A person gets tired of having to read that sort of stuff after awhile.
