The Stake is one of Richard Laymon's best novels around. While it is much slower in pace than his normal books, it sustains your interest and you won't be able to put it down! If you have read any of his other books and are considering purchasing more, make sure The Stake is one of them!

Larry Dunbar is a strugling horror writer. But, when he and his friend Pete find a female corpse with a stake through it's heart, he may just have a story. Larry wonders to himself: Could this be a vampire?

There's only one way to tell... He'll just have to pull the stake...

FANTASTIC READING 12 July 2000
Format:Paperback
A totaly brilliant and vibrant read, the storyline was always nail biting and though about vampires was really quite believable even in this day and age. A writer who can make any storyline one that any person that appreciates a book would want to read.

The moment I picked this up I couldn't put it down. I HAD to know how it ended. Along the way I got very entertained by a master of horror fiction. Now I want to read all of his books.

Well written and gripping from the start.

Laymon at his best
The Stake is the sort of book you can read again and again. The characters are richly developed, and the story is a real page turner; so much so you end up hoping you never reach... Read more

A vampire tale without a vampire
The Stake is intrinsically a fairly straightforward tale, but one where the true nature of the vampire is not revealed until the dying chapters of the story. Read more

A corker of a read.
This book was very interesting to read and in some places very intense, the kind of book that begged not to be put down. I'm a writer myself and based my writings on Richards work. Read more
