I first read the Stainess Rat as a comic book adaptation in 2000AD about 30 years ago.
I was looking for something to read last summer and fancied something that me and my son could enjoy and saw reference to the Stanless Steel Rat within a SF magazine write up.
I purchased it and was delighted I had. I'd started and finised reading the collection within a few days, I really couldn't put it down.
The main protagonist is Slippery Jim Digriz, he's a Stainless Steel Rat a clever and seemingly uncatchable criminal in a Universe where crime is supposed to have ceased. His adventures, starting with him being captured and then used to catch others make for rip-roaring adventure.
This contains three books:
The Stainless Steel Rat
The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge
The Stainless Steel Rat Saves the World
All are great fun, fast paced and highly enjoyable, taking Jim from the future in outer space to the near past of Earth and back again (and many other places in between).
My son has since read this and found it hugely enjoyably and is asking for a second collection. If they do one we shall snap it up.

I read a lot of of Mr Harrison's novels when I was still in school. This omnibus is a great way of discovering the lighter side of SciFi. A great addition to anyone's SciFi library. Why slippery Jim has never made it to the big screen I don't know. I also recommend SciFi fans and literary types to read Make Room! Make Room! also by Harry Harrison (his more serious side).

Classic from yesteryear
Read these excellent comedy sci fi books in my youth and thought I'd wallow in a bit of nostalgia. Still as enjoyable today as they were then.

Stainless Steel Rat Omnibus
These stories (especially the first) may have been written some time ago, but they are still entertaining, have a good pace and have ingenious plot-twists.

A MUST READ! A CLASSIC.
If you like D. Adams Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy kind of humor, then this is for you. Probably the ultimate in sci/fi spy novels with a healthy dose of unique humor! Enjoy!
