5.0 out of 5 stars A King Still Going Strong 3 Dec 2011
From the first movie as a young child to gracing the screen with his peking opera skills of martial arts, Jackie Chan has stake his mark of the King of comedy in the movie industry with his incredible skills & comic timing & still keeps you laughing with movie bloopers, from every movie he makes, you can't get enough from this guy who makes you want to get more of his films, well this is a film to have in your Jackie Chan dvd collection to keep your finger on the rewind button of every scenes to see the King do his thing. The Spy Next Door has mixtures of every elements from action to emotion to romance to comedy, this film has those ingredients to make you want to watch it again plus as a family movie, it's a great entertainment too. If you want action with a dash of comedy, then check this film out, it will make laugh, cry, hey it may make you do both.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'A GREAT FAMILY WATCH' 12 Jun 2014
By rbmusicman TOP 500 REVIEWER
'Bob' (Jackie Chan) lives next door to 'Gillian' (Amber Valetta) and her three children, 'Farren' 'Ian' and 'Nora' they would love to marry, but the kids just don't seem to like 'Bob' at all.
'Bob' hasn't told 'Gillian' what he does for a living he try's to tell her over dinner but is called away on a job.
When 'Gillian' says she has to go away for a few days 'Bob' offers to look after the children in the hope they will get to know and like him.
'Gillian's' son downloads a program from 'Bob's' computer believing it to be a music 'gig' ....however, what it really is, it's a special formula being developed by a 'Russian -Bad-Guy' ....the 'Russians' trace the download to 'Bob's house....the 'Russians are coming' .....all hell breaks loose for 'Bob' and 'Gillian's' children, who 'Bob' has to protect.
'Jackie Chan' gives one of the funniest performances i've seen him do with his usual mix of 'Martial-Arts' action, combine that with the childrens inter-action and you've got a brilliantly funny movie.
It's a great, fun-packed family film which will have you laughing-out-loud.
Story line ' Much humour - don't miss the out-takes at the end of the movie...........................enjoy.

By Trevor Willsmer HALL OF FAME TOP 100 REVIEWER
Despite it's Pacifier-lite premise and opening with a brief montage of stunts mostly culled from his glory days in Hong Kong that threaten to make what follows seem even more underwhelming, The Spy Next Door surprisingly manages not to be terrible despite being yet another critically reviled American film to misuse Jackie Chan's considerable talents to prop up a would-be comedy that looks more like TV than a movie. It has most of the faults of his weakest Stateside openings, from bland direction (courtesy of Brian Levant), weak villains, unimpressive action scenes (one with a very obvious double for Chan in one stunt) and a determination to keep everything so family friendly that it runs the risk of boring some of the kids its clearly aimed at by offering too few opportunities for its star to show what he can do in an action scene until the finale. Yet somehow it manages to be easygoing brain-off viewing that never descends to the patronising depths of the likes of The Tuxedo or the clumsy child-endangerment shenanigans of Robin-B-Hood. It helps that Chan's English has improved massively to the point where he can play this kind of material much better: he's actually more credible as the new boyfriend trying to win over his neighbour's kids who hate him enough to jeopardise his marriage plans than he is as an undercover superspy facing off against cartoonish Russians who look like they failed the auditions for Home Alone. Physically it makes no great demands on him and offers no great stunt or comedic setpieces, but Chan's racked up enough of those over the years to have earned the odd movie where he can just coast by on his charisma and likeability. It's never particularly good but it's harmless, and considering how bad many of his American films have been that's some kind of progress. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars My name is not really Bob 26 Feb 2011
Gillian (Amber Valletta) has next a new potential love of her life; it is her next-door neighbor, the sedate pen salesman Bob Ho (Jackie Chan). However, their relationship is doomed as Gillian's children hold a low opinion of Bob. Gillian wants her kids to be safe and happy. What about Bob? He may not be as sedate as Gillian supposes but he intends to for her kids to like him. His opportunity comes when he gets to babysit. However, it looks like his old job may complicate things.

With few exceptions, I am not a Jackie Chan fan. This movie is definitely one of the exceptions. It has over the top acting and stunts. The story is formula and predictable but this people can act and the dialog is hokey to match. You will want to kibitz.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nobody does it like Jackie Chan 14 July 2014
So, you are under ten, and you are being landed with a babysitter. Who do you want? Schwarzenegger? Stallone? Or maybe you prefer to be home alone, or perhaps have the baby sitter die on you. The formula of 'kids with an entirely inappropriate babysitter' may have been done a few times, but nobody does it like Jackie Chan. Comical, sad, built to be misjudged by stroppy kids, and the greatest genius of slapstick since Buster Keaton.

This is a superb film. Despite the gossamer thin premise, or perhaps because of it, Jackie Chan manages to gradually ramp up the excitement and the comedy in equal measure. Age has only improved him.

Nobody does it like Jackie Chan.
