Format:Audio CD
Extremely humourous 2 CD audio presentation, based on Star Trek (the original series and the Next Generation), with Leonard Nimoy as Spock and John Delancie as Q, performing to a live audience. Each CD lasts approximately one hour.

On the first CD, Spock travels into the past (ie our present day) to warn humans of an approaching danger, but Q tries to stop him, presumably with the prime directive in mind. The ensuing banter between Spock as the logical half-vulcan and Q as the egotistical supreme being is very amusing.
The second CD takes up the story again, from where the first CD finished. Not wishing to give too much away (I'm sure if you really wanted to, you could find a spoiler elsewhere on the web) let's just say that both Nimoy and Delancie get the chance to take their Star Trek characters in a different direction, again with amusing results.

I think this audio production is one for the Star Trek fans. I'm a trekkie myself, so I really enjoyed it. If, however, you are considering this title after enjoying other "Alien Voices" productions, DON'T expect more of the same. Unlike other "Alien Voices" CDs, it is NOT a presentation of a classic science story, there are almost no special effects, no other actors apart from Delancie and Nimoy, and I repeat, you really need to be familiar with Star Trek in order to appreciate the in-jokes.

I was really looking forward to listening to this on Christmas day, but within a few minutes of playing the first CD it became clear that this was not what I was expecting! I was expecting humour that was at least as sophisticated, obtuse and refreshing as say Douglas Adam's "Hitch Hikers......." but, at the very most, it was transparent and only worthy of a second rate situation comedy. One could see the gags and play-on-words coming a mile off which made me think the script writer didn't really know the characters for whom she was writing. Q and Spock just wouldn't speak like this or be so easily fooled by each other. The scirpt should've had the once over from the 'Next Generation' writers, me thinks! De Lancies and Nimoy's performances were excellent, particularly the former's, although the aging Nimoy's voice was at times croaky, indistinct and lacked the presence that Spock once would've commanded-I suppose that's not really his fault-he is getting on, bless him. The single worst thing about this package was the live audience before whom it was recorded. They laughed, whooped, cheered, whistled and clapped at EVERYTHING that was said-EVERYTHING-even if it wasn't even part of a joke. They were clearly easily pleased had a low humour threshold and understandably keen to make the performers feel good about what they were doing, but they were also very irritating. I'm sure you won't be surprised to learn this was recorded in the USA.........make of that what you will!

If you like the BBC sitcoms, 'My Family' , 'My Hero' etc, you'll love this. If you like your humour a more intelligent, don't even consider this. If you liked the cerebral humour of the Next Generation-avoid this at all costs!

So all-in-all a very disappointing listen which bears little resemblance to the real characters of Spock and Q and an obtrusive audience.

Intelligent, Smart, and Funny 9 Jan 2002

I recently saw Leonard Nimoy and John De Lancie perform live Spock VS. Q and the sequel on Saturday night Jan 5 at a Slanted Fedora convention in the Meadowlands, NJ.

Spock meets Q and Q meets Spock for the first time. I love the dialogue and the outwittings between Spock and Q, Unfortunately Leonard Nimoy may not be Spock ever again. So this cd collection just may be Leonard's last works as Spock.

Leonard Nimoy and John De Lancie bring the characters to life!

This is a great collection for any Star Trek Fan!

adorable! 11 July 2004

I think that all plot points worth mentioning have been covered in the official review so I will not go into depth about the plotlines of both CDs. However, I would like to express how unusually delightful it is to actually *listen* to this form of entertainment, which can best be described as a "play on tape".

The dialouge here is superbly crafted in both the original and the sequel and there is nary a moment without playful and interesting banter between Spock and Q. For those of you who are die-hard fans of Star Trek and have never given a shot to listening (as opposed to watching) you MUST give this a shot.

Both the orignal and the sequel lend themselves to repeated listenings.

Incredible performance 26 Oct 2005

When I bought the "Star Trek: The Spock vs. Q Collection" I knew I was in for something special but what I didn't know was how special it was going to be. This collection is absolutely hillarious, both Nemoy and DeLancie are in great form and the interaction between the two is not to be missed.

Two masters at their craft.

The story itself is great and so is the writing, the dialog is intelligent and the delivery is fast pace, you can tell they were having a lot fun performing together.

As a bonus you get a cd with a short preview on the show, if the complete show is available on dvd please let me know I'd buy it in a second.

Also I recommend the other five cds recorded by Alien Voices, you won't be sorry.
