More About the Author

Ruby Stone was born in 1960 in Guernsey, Channel Islands and grew up there until moving to the UK South Coast where she has lived for more than 30 years.

"The Splintered Circle" is Ruby's first attempt at writing fiction. Prior to that any writing had been restricted to work-related reports.

Happy memories from her childhood helped with some of the novel, particularly as her elderly relatives still had clear recall of the Channel Island Occupation during the Second World War.

Today, Ruby still enjoys a life which includes simpler things - a wildlife garden, nature, photography and plenty of reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jolly good reading! 5 July 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I have just finished reading just the first few chapters of The Splintered Circle and was pleasantly surprised. The quality of the writing and the description of the settings pulled me right into the story. I like this type of story where morals have value and the character of a region shines through clearly. I love traveling to visit parts of the world to meet different sorts of people and this story does just that - transports you in just a few sentences. Well done! I would guess that many people are going to love this story.

I find stories like this that have two or more character collections with a link (without giving anything away) very interesting.
I have read all Peter Robinson's books of which some have a similar theme.
I would recommend this book and would have paid for it had it not been free.

4.0 out of 5 stars something a bit different. 9 Aug 2012

I found this story a little difficult to follow at first as it switches between apparently unconnected characters. However, the writing style flowed so making it easy to follow and it eventually all came together with a novel twist at the end. Well worth the read.

3.0 out of 5 stars A bit strange 15 Jun 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
There are some converging stories here. There's Max and Raif (not Ralph?) and there's Fleur and her aunt Marie, and another which appears in the last pages. I won't mention it because that would spoil the end for other readers.
I read the book from beginning to end because I wanted to find out where it was headed, but can't say I was bowled over by it. Maybe I missed something, but I don't think the plot was either convincing or very coherent.
There were a number of mistakes which may have been due to spellcheck failure, especially:
"Discrete" when it should have been discreet; the first is individually separate and distinct, the second, a homophone meaning careful and circumspect. (see the Kindle dictionary)
"Disinterested" where it should have been "uninterested"
"Horde" when it should have been "hoard".

2.0 out of 5 stars Confused writing style and trivial plot 23 July 2013

I read it because I live in Dorset and have enjoyed visiting the Channel Isles but I found it completely unbelievable and disappointing.

The Splintered Circle - A Dorset & Channel Island WWII Mystery
An enjoyable read, atmospheric and with intriguing characters. I felt that the ending left me up in the air. I would have liked to know in a bit more detail just who it was that climbed down into the bunker. The plot drew me in and I found myself wondering if the missing piece would ever be found. I found this book via the Indie Author Promos site.
