Review

'The Spirit at Work Phenomenon' is the most comprehensive overview of the movement I've seen. And it's rich in resources! It's a 'must read' for anyone who is longing for more fulfilment from their work. Buy extra copies and pass them on to anyone who fits the profile. --John Renesch, author and international key note speaker

I strongly recommend this book to senior directors and managers who are concerned for the spiritual health of their organization, as it clearly demonstrates the link between spiritual and economic health. It is illuminated by stories of spirituality at work in different organizations adn repays careful study and thought. --Patrick O'Ferrall, OBE, former chairman of Lloyd's Register of Shipping

'Brilliant! The book has academic clarity and yet warmth of heart; it is inspirational and I shall use it and draw on it frequently --Georgeanne Lamont, author of The Spirited Business and Managing Partner of Lamont Associates

Product Description

Businesses have become the most powerful and influential institutions on earth. As such, they have social and planetary responsibilities that go beyond simply making a profit: the sustainability of our world is in question. Our economic climate focuses our minds on asking deeper questions about meaning and purpose. It isn't surprising then, that calls for a greater emphasis on 'spirituality' are gaining momentum. This accessible book, with its many stories, examples and lists of vital resources, is the first to draw together in one volume all the central aspects of workplace spirituality. As such, it is an essential guide to current thinking and key debates.

Buy this one! I am a teacher and researcher in this field, and am always being asked to recommend further reading. Much of the literature in this area vacillates between arcane journal articles and op-ed pop-spirituality. This book, however, is not only well-grounded and easy to read, it offers a window, from a UK perspective, on this complex and emerging world, and so is the best place to start in your exploration of it.

The Spirit at Work Phenomenon is a great read and a valuable contribution to
the field. It sets out succinctly and in simple, easy to read language,
the essence of the spirit at work phenomenenon. It is incredibly
well-founded, with great depth and substance and very well researched.

John Renesch, author and international keynote speaker, said 'it's the most
comprehensive overview of the movement I've seen. And it's rich in
resources. It's a 'must read' for anyone who is longing for more
fulfillment from their work. Buy extra copies and pass them on to anyone
who fits the profile!'.

The Revd Patrick O'Ferrall OBE, Former Chairman of Lloyd's Shipping said 'I
strongly recommend this book to senior directors and managers who are
concerned for the spiritual health of their organisations, as it clearly
demonstrates the link between spiritual and economic health. It is
illuminated by stories of spirituality at work in different organisations
and repays careful study and thought.'

Pat Sullivan, Author of Work with Meaning, Work with Joy said 'Of the
several hundred books in my spirit at work library, this one quickly went
into the top ten. Whether you are long time student of the spirit at work
movement or are just discovering why so many people want to bring spirit to
work, this is the book for you. Compelling stories, solid research from
many fields and faiths, combined with the author's experience make for both
a first-class read and reference material. This book is specially
recommended for Executives, OD/OT and HR managers, clergy, therapists, job
counselors and anyone who works with or cares about people at work.'

The Revd Margaret Hobrough, OBE, Former Principle of Godalming College said
'Such a masterly analysis and evaluation of the 'Spirit at Work Phenomenon'
will simultaneously inform, encourage and provide a handbook for further
development of companies, voluntary organisations, the public sector, and
leaders and managers the length and breadth of the land. But perhaps, even
more important, is its message to all who seek meaning and purpose in their
working lives and who want to 'make a difference' to the society in which
they live. This book goes to the very heart and soul of our everyday
experience at work and seeks, like the prophets of old, to chart a new
course, to create a new covenant between what people do and who they are
once they begin to function with the whole of their being, body, mind and
spirit. For me, though perhaps not for all, it is discerning where God is
at work in God's world and seeking to become part of God's purpose.'

Dr Josie Gregory, at the University of Surrey's School of Management will be
listing this book as recommended reading for their Postgraduate Certificate
in Spiritual Development and Facilitation.

This book provides a robust starting point for business leaders, work
groups, educators, religious bodies and all those engaged in active spiritual
enquiry. Buy this book - you won't regret it.
