Couldnt put this book down! FANTASTIC! mike was his usual witty sarcastic self, great idea using the same characters from other books, and putting them together in a whole new story, even patches was her usual snotty self, :~) i have laughed and even cried at parts in this story, brilliant ending, totally was not expecting that!

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as the rest? 3 Sep 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed this read, it was as with all books by Mark Tufo a very easy and engaging read. The plot while a semi tried and tested style was given its own original twist which has over the past few years become a hallmark synonymous with his work, and became one that kept me burning the candle long into the night. The characterisation of this supporting cast was brilliant and had me at several point slightly misty eyed, not only from their interactions with our reoccurring hero but also with their real world humanity and in some cases all to untimely end.
I found though despite all this; the book in places it seemed to sag, especially in the closing pages where it seemed rushed and not as well thought out as the previous chapters that had kept me enthralled up to that point; which is highly unusual for a author who has turned out some gripping and rather stomach churning books, this may be due to the fact that it was for him unfamiliar territory (which he himself admitted on a social networking forum) being more supernatural and semi psychological as opposed to the biological horror that made him a rising name in horror fiction.
All in all, this was a good first foray into the supernatural and psychological realm despite the flaws and something that I am extremely happy to recommended to any one who is an avid reader of this genre or Mr Tufo's work in general.

1.0 out of 5 stars must have read a different book to everyone else 26 Sep 2013
By nat30

Was really looking forward to reading this book but didnt enjoy it at all. Actually read 3/4 and started reading something else. Feels to me like its aimed at a teenage audience with a sickly sweet love story threaded through it. Just didnt feel for or believe in the characters very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars great escapism 16 Sep 2014
By Leona
Format:Kindle Edition
This is my first Mark Tufo book and I was not disappointed. I avoided his other books due to the zombie theme but the supernatural twist to this novel intrigued me enough to risk putting up with the occasional zombie, which turned out to be unnecessary. The book is not free of the living dead of course and Mark Tufo's easy and entertaining narrative style is definitely an encouragement towards trying his other books.

Marks characters are all very well developed, the emotional roller-coaster that is the result of Mark's accident and the way he copes with his new found 'disability' are very well portrayed, as are the relationships that Mike forges with the other characters in the book. While this is clearly a horror, Mike's relationship with Jandilyn and Jed are very uplifting and humorous and it is this humour that crates a 'pleasant' balance between the characteristic tension created by the 'horror' mode and the anticipation of what will befall Mike next. I particularly liked the role of the 'bathroom' in the narrative, it was impossible not to view showers with a bit of suspicion during my listening of this book, Hitchcock has certainly set up our horror expectations in reference to bathrooms and Mark Tufo takes full advantage of this. About half of way through the book, on a midnight bathroom run and just as I was doubting the book's ability to give me the hibijibis, I found even my remarkably ordinary shower curtain threatening and considered quitting reading the book lest I compromised my personal hygiene for ever.

The audio-book is narrated by Sean Runnette who has a very clear and easy to listen to voice, his narration is excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great tufo 3 Sep 2012
By Andy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I first picked up on marks work by accident. I downloaded one of his zombie fallout books whilst looking for max brooks. What a happy mistake two years or so later I find myself on another Michael talbot adventure this time as I read the intro to the book I found myself going down a familiar story path one which threads through out the talbot universe (see also Indian hill) all of a sudden our heroes path was changed forever and the whole book begins to take on a somewhat darker view of the character I had thought I knew so well. The story it's self is hard to explain without giving too much away It is moving and beautiful in parts dark and violent in others mark draws the reader in and you almost feel the insanity creep up on you as the story moves towards a shocking yet somehow inevitable ending. This book is great if you are already a fan of tufo but I urge anyone who has not yet read anything by mark to start with this book it has everything I love about tufos work rolled into one and I think it is defiantly his best work yet ( excluding Indian hill 2)
As any tufo fan (or review) will tell you his books are hard to put down and once you start one prepare to lose a day or two. The other thing his fans will tell you is that he is a genuinely decent bloke who always has time for his fans.

All in all a great enjoyable read would highly recommend
