Product Description

Review

"Past and present, sacred and profane jostle and collide in a glorious tumult in this anarchic drama... it's couched in verse that is muscular, ribald, and often dazzlingly rich... It's sprawling and unashamedly ragged in execution, but it's irrepressibly vital: a joyous, gutsy celebration of life, love, faith and forgiveness. " - Sam Marlowe, The Times

About the Author

John Constable is a south London playwright, poet and performer. He is the author of many plays, including The Southwark Mysteries, his epic cycle of apocalyptic poems and mystery plays, performed in Shakespeare's Globe and Southwark Cathedral in 2000 and 2010. It has also featured in many site-specific performances - such as The Halloween of Crossbones, performed annually since 1998. For more than a decade John has conducted unusual historical walks around Southwark, some of which are included in his book Secret Bankside - Walks In The Outlaw Borough. He is artistic director of the community arts group, SOUTHWARK MYSTERIES, and was recently awarded an Honorary Fellowship of London South Bank University for "services to the Arts and Community". John Constable's Sha-Manic Plays, his stage adaptation of Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast trilogy, The Southwark Mysteries and Secret Bankside - Walks In the Outlaw Borough are all published by Oberon Books.

Format: Paperback
A fantastic physical and spiritual guide to The Goose, her Mysteries and all things Southwark. The best companion to the performance of The Southwark Mysteries at Shakespeare's Globe and Southwark Cathedral on Easter Sunday 2000 - Shakepeare's birthday and St George's Day. Mind-blowing poems and visionary plays, imaginative and detailed glossary, and the low-down on Southwark's history and mystery.

A good read! Very interesting info concerning Southwark's history. It certainly taught me many things I did not know about the Bankside and Crossbones burial ground.
