Biography

The Black Crowes made old-fashioned Southern rock during an era when forward-looking musical styles were far more popular. Nonetheless, since their 1990 debut, this Georgia band, led by frontman Chris Robinson and his guitarist brother Rich, have proven to be a popular touring act, churning out sensual blues-rock that recalls the Rolling Stones and other classic-rock groups. 5.0 out of 5 stars oh my god this is the best album ever 3 Mar 2008
Format:Audio CD
A rarity. An album which is so much more than just a collection of songs, but a piece of music in it's own right. muddy swampy southern dirt rock.
I firmly believe that this is one of the best 'rock' albums ever made by anyone, almost flawless

5.0 out of 5 stars Really good stuff from the Black Crowes. 2 Aug 2008
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Some more good material from this laid back southern states rhythm and blues band. If you're already a fan of The Black Crowes you can't go past this album and if you're a recent convert then you'll love it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone MUST own this album! EVERYONE!!! 5 Nov 2010
Format:Audio CD
This applies to you. Yes! YOU!!! Whoever you are!

I don't care if you prefer one genre of music before any other. This album should be required listening for everyone on the planet.

It is soulful, accessible, singalong raw-voiced-accompanied-by-angels anthemic hymnal rock music at its very best. It captured a band at its absolute peak in terms of both songwriting and live performance. It is an album (if you dig lables) which literally lives up to its name. It is "southern" blues/rock, played direct and hard, yet with a soulful, almost gospel vibe to it in many places. The musicianship is gutsy, groovy, and uplifting. The backing vocals do not detract from what most would describe as a straight hard rock album; rather they are an essential part. They emphasise the uplifting message the entire album brings: everyone I know who owns this album includes it on their list of all time favourites.

No small praise...

Aside from the very last track(as is commonly mentioned) every song is strong; every song is memorable: an entire album of A - sides.

No small praise...

So. - Unless you have a strange incurable phobia of guitars or vocal harmony; regardless of your creed, personal bias in music or beliefs - listen to this album.

Once you have heard it you will never, ever, let it go. That's a promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my desert island discs 4 Mar 2008
By D. Daly
Format:Audio CD
Title says it all really - absolute classic album. Leaving out the last tune which is a sing-song cover, the rest of the tracks are bona-fide rock n' roll classics. I think "My Morning Song" is where the album peaks - and live its even better, if possible!!!

Get this album for your collection!

Format:Audio CD
Recorded in a mere 8 days, this is a magical album which stands the test of time very, very easily. One of the top albums of the 1990's & one of the best rock albums since it's release, an all time classic.
