Album Description
The fourth volume of Ace Records ongoing mid-price series based on B.B. King’s original Crown LPs with bonus tracks. "B.B. King" represents the blues giant’s twelfth and final Crown LP, released in 1963. As ever, B.B.’s deep blues roots from Mississippi and Memphis are easily discernable. There are eight bonus tracks, including three unreissued Kent singles and two previously unreleased cuts, with plenty of King’s stand-out blues guitar playing. None are currently available on Ace CD.
Beautifully mastered, this "Crown" series - compiled and annotated by John Broven - continues to roll out at the high standard befitting B.B.’s enviable status as the standard-bearer of the blues. This album was later re-issued as "The Soul Of B.B.King".

Replace the mic

Format:Audio CD
This release is not as strong as others in the ACE re-issue series due to variable sound quality and the absence of hits. Some of the vocals are quite distorted, and the bonus material is lethargic. Any early B.B. King material is worth owning, but check out other albums in the series first--this will appeal mainly to collectors.
