More About the Author

Charlaine Harris was born in Tunica, Mississippi, and raised in the Mississippi River Delta area in the middle of a cotton field. Though her early works consisted largely of poems about ghosts and, later, teenage angst, she wrote plays when she attended Rhodes College in Memphis, Tennessee and started writing novels a few years later.

After publishing two stand-alone mysteries, Harris launched a light-hearted mystery series 'starring' Georgia librarian Aurora Teagarden. The first of the eight books, Real Murders, was shortlisted for Best Novel in the 1990 Agatha Awards. In 1996, she released the first of the much darker Shakespeare mysteries, featuring the amateur sleuth Lily Bard, a karate student who makes her living cleaning houses.

Charlaine Harris then wrote the first of her Southern vampire mysteries starring Sookie Stackhouse, the quirky, telepathic waitress who works in a bar in the fictional Northern Louisiana town of Bon Temps. Dead Until Dark won the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Mystery. It also won Harris a whole new fan club of devoted readers and pushed her into the bestseller lists. The Sookie Stackhouse series, in which Sookie has to deal with vampires, werecreatures and other supernatural folk - not to mention her own complicated love life - was also instrumental in creating the urban fantasy genre.

Sookie Stackhouse also enchanted Alan Ball, creator of the smash TV show Six Feet Under, who took an option and wrote and directed the pilot episode for True Blood himself. It was an instant hit when it premiered in the US, and that success was repeated when it was first aired in Britain last year. The second season of TRUE BLOOD will start this spring.

Harris's newest series features Harper Connelly, a young woman who, after being struck by lightning, finds herself able to locate the bodies of the dead and to determine the cause of their death. There are four Harper titles (Grave Sight, Grave Surprise, An Ice Cold Grave and Grave Secret).

Charlaine Harris is a member of the Mystery Writers of America and the American Crime Writers League. She is a member of the board of Sisters in Crime, and alternates with Joan Hess as president of the Arkansas Mystery Writers Alliance. She is married, the mother of three, and lives in a small town in Southern Arkansas. When she is not writing her own books, she reads omnivorously!

If you are a fan of the Sookie novels then you will love this companion! At the start there is a brand-new Sookie story in which she accompanies Sam to his sisters wedding. There is detailed summaries of each novel right up to Dead Reckoning, which might be a little bit boring for some people but personally for me it was a great reminder of everything that's gone on in the novels, as its so long from I've read them all. There is also a fans questions and answers from Alan Ball. Sookie's family tree is also in there. Information on Vampires, fairie factions and the two natured. lots of Favourite Bon Temps recipes including the famous Caroline Holliday Bellefleur's chocolate cake. And lots more.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this companion. a must read for fans everywhere. :)

I thought there would be more than two short stories in this and lots of it is about Charlaine Harris, not Sookie Stackhouse. Just not as good as I had hoped.

If you're a fan of True Blood or the original Sookie novels, then this is a wonderful companion for you as it not only contains some facts to do with the setting but also includes essentials like recipes used by characters. It's quirky, it brings the dark world closer to our own and with wonderful additions from missing pieces within the stories (such as Eric and Bill phone conversations) as well as giving northern Louisiana a deeper flavour for the readers imagination

Finally add to this maps, Sookie's family tree and of course a whole host of other factoids as well as background material which overall will be a well thumbed through addition to any fans collection. A wonderful gift at any time of year.

Went out first thing and got this from Waterstones yesterday and am not disappointed at all. Perfect for all fans of the brilliant Charlaine Harris and the universe she has created in Bon Temps. People who love True Blood will also enjoy this and there are stories I haven't read before too. LOVE IT!!! Perfect Christmas present and a must have for all fans new and old alike.

I simply love the series and thought this might give me an insight into the way it was created and where things are going ( bill, bill, bill please charlaine let it be bill!!) - what really really disappointed me was that maybe 1/3 of it was taken up with summaries of the series - I've READ the books - i don't need or want a summary!! Thats the main reason for the low star rating, just a waste on me. The character summaries were intesting but having read the series twice now ( and only found it in june...) i've pretty much worked how who's who although some did give an insight into motivation of the character and reasons for their actions. If i'd bought this before reading the books maybe i'd have got more out of this section. I'm not into quizzes at all so that section was wasted on me - i simply skipped past it, the recipies were interesting but as an extra only - they add nothing integral to the books, for instance i've always wondered what hush puppies were, here in uk they're a brand of shoe! I really liked the emails between bill and eric - gave an insight ionto their relationship and think more like that would have been great, I loved the short story about sams brothers wedding - i'd like to read the other short stories but for some reason they're not available on kindle :( and i'm not a short story fan but these seem more "novella" style so i'd enjoy them.
altogtherI would have liked more original material included for the price - 8.99 for this is way overpriced. If I hadn't expected to get more original info i'd never have bought it - now i've read it and thats that - its not like the series which i'll read and re read. and am waiting very impatiently for the next book ....just to reiterate - bill for sookie, bill for sookie.

I'm a massive True Blood / Sookie fan and couldn't wait to get my hands on this book however I was disappointed with the content. There are a couple of short stories the rest of the book is made up of the timeline of the True Blood books going over events that we have already read about. It also contains recipes!? And an overview of all the characters!? Would make an OK gift but as I said before I don't rate the content.

I really liked this book but the summary of all the sookie stackhouse books was a bit boring as I already knew exactly what happened in all of the books
