The Sons of Mistletoe boy's orphanage is a happy place. Run by the charismatic Jimmy Adams (George Newbern, Father of the Bride), the home has become one big family. But when its largest benefactor dies and leaves the orphanage to his daughter, Helen Radke (Roma Downey, TV's Touched by an Angel), Jimmy worries about funding, especially as the old house begins to show its wear. Just when it appears that Ms. Radke is going to pull the plug on her father's investment, a Christmas miracle changes everything.

I'm a great big Softie for Christmas films. I saw this film on Hallmark Channel several years ago & fortunately taped it. I've been looking for it ever since but as I don't have a multi regional DVD player I'm still patiently waiting & my VHS tape is wearing out. This is a lovely heart-warming film about a boys' orphanage/foster home that really only has ever had one true benefactor who has recently died & left everything to his daughter whom he hasn't seen since she was taken away when her mother left him. So the boys have to 'persuade' Miss Radsky to take over from her father as their benefactress but one of them 'Wiley' isn't quite so keen to help the others out (there's another story here - watch the film for this). She decides to sell all her father's business assets to 'New Yorkers' which means most of the town of Mistletoe's population fears being out of work, especially at Christmas. Mistakenly she also includes the 'Mistletoe Home for Boys'in the sale-and feeling betrayed the boys turn to 'Uncle' Jimmy their mentor & guardian to save their home & keep them together.
All the boys play excellent parts & it's a film for all the family whether your a pop, fruit juice, hot chocolate, wine or beer fan you can settle down on a cosy winter's Christmas eve & really get into the festive season with this one.

The Sons of Mistletoe
Starring Roma Downey and George Newbern

I really enjoyed this more unusual Christmas film which tells the story of a boy's orphanage which is threatened with closure following the death of its only benefactor. This tells the story of charismatic Jimmy who runs the orphanage's quest to save it and the occasional surprises that unfolds during his quest. A real feel-good film.

Like the previous two reviews, I have been trying to get this for my beloved for years. We, too have an old video copy from the TV which is fast becoming unwatchable and I was thrilled to find it on both the regular DVD websites just a few minutes ago. Why its taken so long to become available I just don't know. I am not normally one for smaltzy films with children in them but this is really fabulous and, needless to say, is already on order for next day delivery. Loads of brownie points from the missus I think!!
If you've not seen it, do buy it now. You won't regret it.

Quite like Roma Downey so that was a good start. A somewhat predictable ending but nice getting there. I enjoyed it and so have friends who watched it with me. Another movie to relax to without having to engage brain to much.

A good Christmas movie. The whole family watched it together and decided it will be a regular feature for the future Christmas viewing list.

We make a point of buying a christmas dvd and you will not be dissapointed with this . throw together a orphanage a benefactor dying & his quite ruthless daughter ( so you think ) and you a cocktail of emotion has a little charles Dickens theme to it but not as heavy , but very enjoyable , will enjoy watching every year . loved it .
