Biography

Quick, name the guitarist whose previous albums have sold more than Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and AC/DC combined. Hint: It’s not Zakk Wylde.

“Let’s just tell everyone that anyway,” says the guitarist, before launching into a long conversation about other small white lies he’d like stated as fact (including his bench press and a certain anatomy ... Read more in Amazon's Black Label Society Store

Product Description

This companion piece to Black Label Society's 2010 offering Order of the Black finds Zakk Wylde and company running through selected tracks from the record, as well as a handful that didn t make the cut, like a lovely rendition of Blind Faith's "Can't Find My Way Home," in an acoustic fashion. Stripped down, songs like Overlord and Parade of the Dead owe more to Alice in Chains' 1996 Unplugged album than they do Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin, but the string and piano-laden accompaniment lends a more ornate, Skynyrd-meets-Bad Company vibe to the occasion than it does a rainy, hopeless, late-'90s day in Seattle.

This is a brilliant album, especially the acoustic versions from Order of the Black, it adds a whole new dimension to the songs such as Overlord and Parade of the Dead, they are almost unrecognisable. The other covers are brilliant too, and show how good Zakk's voice can be. The musicianship on the album is also excellent, notable not only for Zakk's guitar work but for all of the other instruments that he plays on the album. For someone trying to get into Black Label Society or Zakk Wylde, then try listening to Pride and Glory or Book of Shadows first as they are more complete albums, but for a fan of the band, then this album is well worth buying and should not be missed.

After listening to the album may times, I cannot fault it. The songs cover the latest BLS period and are almost better acoustic. I can see no cashing in but just a man in the prime of his writing!

Zakk wylde is a great musician, he's proved it many times. But lately his releases have been a bit repetitive. I was hoping to find more variety with this album, but unfortunately, the same syndrome applies here. It's been heard all over before, and comes second to Book of Shadows in terms of intensity.
This doesn't mean at all that this album isn't good, it's just same ol same ol.
Junior's eyes (Black sabbath) or Bridge over Troubled water (Simon & Garfunkel) aren't really uplifted and neither are Zakk's own compositions.
Anyway, it's good to hear a collection of great songs revisited acoustically, but in a way the formula remains the same. Nice to listen in the evening on your porch a (root) beer in your hand.

As i said in the title, i dont see what adrians problem is. i liked the album and yes the album may be a smidge more conventional or "commerial" but who cares? the songs are good, well written and zakk sounds amazing (as always) and my theory is if its good, buy it and listen to it and i have listened to it many times now. So just buy it and ignor the 1* review!
