Successful financier Carrie St. John has endured all the romantic disasters she thinks she can in a lifetime. That is, until her fiancé jilts her the weekend of her bridal shower. Carrie can't show up unaccompanied again and admit to her family she's a failure. When Carrie meets Mike Davis at an historic country inn, the recently ditched hottie offers to help fill the bill. But, at what price?

Mike Davis was finally going to prove his old high school buddies wrong. Voted "most likely to remain a bachelor" in his prestigious prep school's class, he was looking forward to ushering in his fiancée at his upcoming reunion. Suddenly empty-handed, he's got a new ploy in mind involving the ultra sexy and accomplished Carrie. But Mike doesn't bank on giving up his heart in the bargain. Neither does Carrie, who is soon to learn there are things that even money can't buy...

Other reviews are very negative, the start of the story is a bit slow and drawn out, but it does get better, so stick with it. The pace picks up and I certainly enjoyed the second half of the book more than the first half.
Carrie throws her engagement ring into a swimming pool; this is found by Mike, who is looking for the ring his fiance also threw into the pool. No surprises, they become friends then lovers. A cute story following the developing romance, their hopes & dreams.
I downloaded this as a free book, so more than happy, took couple of days to read. Currently under £1, so still a bargain for a weekend read.

So I downloaded this book and began reading, i think I got through about 8 pages before I decided to have a look back at the description to see where this book was going. There, I stumbled across the other negative review and noted that they managed to get to 26% of the way through. I thought this might be a challenge to try and complete it! I must admit, I only got as far as 12% and gave up completely.

It didn't really seem to have much of a plot nor did it seem very well put together, maybe I should have given it more of a go so it could be partly my fault. But the descriptions the author used and the cliches also thrown in did not offer me anything in terms of intrigue or excitement about this book, nor did the continual spelling mistakes also noted.

Don't get me wrong, I love a good romance, which is clearly where these two were destined to head, especially as fate has it that they were both jilted and both lived in nearby towns to one another but other than that I found the book a little dull. I'm not sure if it would have got better but I did not have the inspiration that I do with some books to give it a fair crack and found it all rather dull to be honest! I hope you manage to find it better than I did and enjoy it.

It definitely was fate...... 16 Feb 2012

This was such a cute romance story, especially for free. It was very romantic, especially for me who believes in love at first sight! :) Story begins with Carrie, being dumped by her fiance at a romantic weekend getaway. Carrie was so disappointed and upset, she throws the engagement ring he gave her out into the pool. Out of the pool emerges the "swim God", AKA Mike Davis. He was diving underneath the pool searching for the engagement ring he had given Alexia which she tossed into the pool. Mike happens to find Carrie's ring and attempts to give it back to her. She was embarrased by the whole situation and tried to run away from him, especially since she was completely drooling over this man when she should have been mourning her breakup. Mike thought Carrie was beautiful, so feminine, so curvy, so sexy, but something else was completely drawing him to her.

Needless to say, their "depressed" status brings them together as friends and they both strike a deal: he goes to her bridal shower pretending to be her fiance and she goes to his 20 year highschool reunion as his fiance.

I've read many stories with similar plots, yet this book was enjoyable. There are small editing issues, but overall, story was very cute, funny, romantic and secondary characters were great! Nice little read for free!

This book was pretty predictable, but a good quick read. I found the characters flawed in a believable way, wish there had been more of a backstory though.
