I saw this lot play live for the first time last year, and since then have been to about 15 gigs. They have a fantastic variety of musical styles, but the best description that I can come up with is probably ska-pop. The album is a really good representation of how they come across live, with the exception that there is no large blue gloved dancer included with the cd. Which is a shame.

Its very rare to pick up an album where every track grabs your interest but "The Solar Hi Fi system", really did for me. Its a fantastic Fusion of various musical styles and well crafted Lyrics. It has a great sixties psychadelic vibe which reminds me of Brian Wilson's "Smile", whilst also using some great samples. What I really love about this band is their songs are effortlessly catchy yet incredibly interesting where in most cases one is sacriced for the other.
I love it, give it a listen and you might too!

i'm still reeling from the most bizarrely wonderful album i've got my ears on in months. plenty of bands say they don't sound like anyone else... these guys really don't! but they do make you cry with joy, dance with exhaustion and laugh your socks off at the horrific ironies of modern life and how it's rubbish. they're brassy and poppy, surprisingly rocky, pretty hip-hoppy and gently tender all at once...
like if andy kaufman came back to life as nine hallucinating brummy musicboxes. like if your mp3player got grated on your eyeballs. very lovely indeed.
