Product Description

Synopsis

Following the success of the widely acclaimed "The Social Toddler" - described by the Journal of "Child Psychotherapy" as a 'groundbreaking publication' - The Children's Project now publish the video and DVD of the same name. Aimed at parents and those who work with families, this 30 minute DVD uses footage filmed for the book and provides a fascinating insight into the world of the toddler. By untangling the mysteries of why toddlers behave the way they do, parents and carers are better able to respond in ways that avoid conflict and maximise enjoyment. Imagine what it must be like to be a toddler...trying to ask, but without language; reasoning without boundaries; and exploring with no concept of fear. The presenters, Helen and Clive Dorman, are child behaviour specialists with over ten years experience bringing academic research into the public domain in a way that is clear for all to understand. Their work is non-patronishing, child centred and based on respect, empathy and listening.

Helen and Clive Dorman explain why your toddler acts the way they do. They promote understanding rather than prescriptive behaviour. If you want to learn how to enjoy your child, then read this book.

This book is full of video stills with a relatively small amount of commentary on the pictures that do little to help parents understand where their child might be in the various stages of child development. It really needs much more backgound and useful information rather than simple observation.

Finally understand your toddler! 26 Jan 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is one of the best I've seen for really helping parents and teachers get inside the puzzling little minds of toddlers. Based on real-life situations that most parents have run into, the book offers practical suggestions for dealing with potential conflicts before they escalate. The authors have years of experience with young children. After you've read this book and implemented its suggestions, the "terrible twos" won't seem so terrible after all.
