Product Description

The saga of one man’s epic struggle to survive during the tumultuous early years of the 13th century as two powerful and aristocratic families—one Russian, one Mongol—are inexorably drawn into bloody conflict, fated to play opposing sides in the creation of the largest empire of the medieval age. Cruelly betrayed while a mere boy by his brother’s vaulting ambition, he eventually overcomes bitter slavery far from his native land, achieving the status of a legendary warrior without peer among his adoptive people. Ultimately forced by tragic circumstances to choose between these two diverse cultures, he must finally decide where his true loyalties lay.

About the Author:

In his early years, Daniel Leston was known as a 'Story Teller' by his nephews and nieces, weaving wondrous tales for their young imaginations about heroes and heroines that strangely seems to carry the same monikers as the intended listeners. It was on this foundation that he decided to pen his first two books, primarily for the enjoyment of family and close friends.

With the emergence of a remarkable tool called the 'e-reader', he decided to retrieve his novels from their long attic slumber, dust them off and offer them to the public in 2009.

Blending his passion, as a former student of Art and History, Mr. Leston has drawn from his background to create two great tales steeped in history, adventure and human conquest. Opting to avoid the more chosen route of hiring a graphic artist for his first submissions to the literary world, he chose instead to complete the package, bringing his vision to life by painting his own covers.

Daniel Leston is currently busy pounding the keyboard on his newest work... a continuing adventure for his beloved character from 'The Amun Chamber', Professor David Manning, scheduled for release in Fall 2012.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Enjoyable 17 Mar 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
Having read the last of Conn Iggulden's Conquerer series, Empire of Silver I found myself looking for something to read of a similar vein. The Snow Leopard's initial attraction is that you're seeing the Mongol invasion through the eyes of those on the receiving end of their expansion west. This however develops into an enjoyable story of the hero, who's life the story follows as he becomes enslaved by the Mongols and then one of their warriors.

The story is an easier read than that of Iggulden but just as exciting in it's own way. I thoroughly enjoyed the tale and will be reading Daniel Leston's next novel.

If you enjoyed the Conquerer series and would like another taste from a different perspective...give it a try.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too many typing and spelling errors 11 Jun 2011

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I agree with everything in the above review which was the reason I bought it. I read many books and this one had more typing errors and spelling mistakes than any other book I have read. It is an excellent well-researched book, but for me it was spoilt by the errors which would not have been the author's fault.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent saga of the Mongol Hordes 2 Aug 2013

THE SNOW LEOPARD Daniel Leston Kindle Edition

I had already sampled Mr.Leston's previous works the archaeological thrillers, 'The Amun Chamber' and 'The Genghis Tomb' both of which were first class and therefore knew of his deep interest in the history of the Mongol Empire of the 12th and 13th. Century and so was expecting great things from an historical novel set during that period.

I was not disappointed. THE SNOW LEOPARD is an excellent novel which follows the fictional life of a young Russian nobleman; left for dead by his ambitious brother, Alexis is captured by a Mongol raiding party and becomes first a slave and later an adopted member of the clan of Genghis Khans foremost general. The story follows his life as a member of the Mongol army and the well written narrative is fast paced with plenty of action, tragedy and a touch of romance set against a convincing and well portayed historical background. It is refreshing that the tale is told from the perception of an outsider and is not a fictional biography of Genghis Ka Khan or one of his close family.

I am one of those awful readers who needs to delve further into everything, especially when the subject matter is relatively unkown to me and I particularly found the descriptions and references to the 13th. Century Russian and Baltic principalities very intriguing.

One of those books that you cannot put down; totally absorbing. I look forward to Mr.Leston's next offering and hope that he considers another book of this genre soon.

The Kindle Edition: Well formatted with minimum of errors. 5/5

4.0 out of 5 stars Different slant to story about the Mongols 11 July 2012
By DJW13
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you haven't read the Conn Iggulden's Conquerer series you will probably enjoy this more than if you have read them. I hadn't realised before I started reading that this was about the Mongols - if I had I probably wouldn't have bothered with this version. I did enjoy it though, as it was interesting to read the story from a different slant, as a previous reviewer has said.

At the time I bought it it was free - so good value!

3.0 out of 5 stars an enjoyable read 19 Sep 2013

I bought this book by mistake but decided to carry on with it. This is not at all the type of book or subject matter I would normally choose, but I did actually enjoy it. A bit too long and I found all the character names a bit muddling, but overall quite a good read. I can imagine it would make a good film.
