I am extremely surprised to see the rave reviews for this dreadful book, which I ended up reading under protest, as the other person who read it before me wanted to discuss the huge holes in the storyline, the endless descriptions of the camps buildings, the monotonous lectures on the painting by Bosch and all the other things which made this a terribly dull read. Anne Rice he is not. Brooding menace in the book, forget it. Gay love, by the ton. People who are not likeable, crowded with them.
Mr Rice needs either tighter more exciting storylines or a half decent editor to ask to rewrite and fill in the obvious gaps where the story really does creak, where he has contrived situations which do not fit the characters. It's not rocket science to do that, so, editors, where are you these days?????
Definitely NOT recommended. I can now go and read something that really entertains me.
