I was after a book about growing up and found this one in Waterstone's. I'm glad I could flick through it before buying it because I thought it was pitched just right - enough information as a first book. The Scholastic book also being sold was a step further on and had topics that weren't suitable at the moment.

This book is clearly written in a fun way for girls of 9+. I would highly recommend it and suggest you read it first so you know which questions might come your way! The front cover gives a good indication of the graphics and style inside. Lots of tips to put your daughter's mind at rest.

The Smart Girl's Guide to Growing Up is great for pre-teens that want to know what on earth is going on with their bodies and their feelings. The matter-of-fact tone is just the right balance of level-headed, favourite (cool) auntie and family GP. It made my daughter feel reassured about growing up and the changes that are going on. She is going to keep the book close for the next couple of years, so she can refer to it when things start 'happening'. As my daughter's moods were becoming a bit erratic, we both realised she needed a bit of help understanding herself. The Smart Girl's Guide has been our saviour! As the previous reviewer recommended, it is worth leafing through it first by yourself before handing it over, because there will be questions, giggles and comments!

OK for Americans 17 April 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Book is informative but have to say I agree with other comments, the terminology is more American than British English and so might be confusing for young readers.
