Re-release of the musical The Slow Drag by Carson Kreitzer, starring the West End and Broadway star Kim Criswell. The Slow Drag was first performed at the Freedom Café in 1997 before transferring to The Whitehall Theatre in the West End. Based on the unique and fascinating life of jazzs greatest cross-dresser Billy Tipton who posed as a man for 54 years in order to work in a male dominated industry. Tipton got away with this masquerade and for 37 of the 54 years even got married to various women! American born Kim Criswell, having spent previous years on Broadway (Baby, Nine, The Three Penny Opera) and in L.A.(Cats), before crossing the Atlantic in 1992 when she was invited to play Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun. Following on from the success of that show she starred in The Slow Drag and Dames At Sea establishing herself at the heart of Londons Musical Theatre scene. Kims recordings of Anything Goes and Kiss Me, Kate for EMI won her rave reviews, as did her appearances in the TV mini-series Savage Play and as Georgie McGuire in Jilly Coopers The Man Who Made Husbands Jealous. She has performed at the BBC Cole Porter Gala at the BOC Covent Garden Festival of Arts, in Of Thee I Sing for Opera North, Candide with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and in a series of Gershwin concerts touring across the country.
