Our almost 3 year old stopped sleeping through when her little brother was born 6 months ago. This book works! There is a page at the front with guidance for parents - amongst other things it explains how you can alter the wording of the book to make it fit more with the routine in your home. You can either read the whole book each night or just the poem if time is in short supply. The basic premise is that after reading the book (to really get the message into their head before they fall asleep) the 'Sleep Fairy' will leave a present under the childs pillow if they stay in bed all night. We just used things like a bouncy ball/crayons or even a marshmallow if we didn't have anything else. The gift itself doesn't really matter, it's the wonderment of finding something under the pillow that an actual fairy put there! The look on her face when she found the present on the first day was amazing. You read it every night for two weeks, then every other night and so on until you have weaned them off the book. At present we only read it once a week or so but she stays in bed anyway as that is now the habit. We tell her that the Sleep Fairy doesn't come every night anymore as she's helping other little girls who don't stay in bed. Hooray!

Apart from the fact this didn't display properly on my kindle and made it very difficult to read, I don't think trying to bribe a child to go to sleep is a particularly good idea especially as most parents do not have the resourses to fund this. Even though it was implying that it should be a small gift like a ribbon or something I can't help thinking that very quickly the child would expect bigger and better gifts as a reward. I suppose you could do a chart thing and make it a once a week or month gift if they manage to sleep through but I'm not sure that would be enough incentive. Very dissappointed.

I think the book is great. It's such a good idea, the concept worked perfectly for my daughter but then she got ill so the sleep pattern changed. I will definitely go back to using this book to help her sleep.

My 3yr old Grandson is over the moon now that the Sleep fairy has been. He even took a small car that the sleep fairy left to nursery to tell his teacher. Is now getting to the stage when the sleep fairy will move on to help another child.
