Our almost 3 year old stopped sleeping through when her little brother was born 6 months ago. This book works! There is a page at the front with guidance for parents - amongst other things it explains how you can alter the wording of the book to make it fit more with the routine in your home. You can either read the whole book each night or just the poem if time is in short supply. The basic premise is that after reading the book (to really get the message into their head before they fall asleep) the 'Sleep Fairy' will leave a present under the childs pillow if they stay in bed all night. We just used things like a bouncy ball/crayons or even a marshmallow if we didn't have anything else. The gift itself doesn't really matter, it's the wonderment of finding something under the pillow that an actual fairy put there! The look on her face when she found the present on the first day was amazing. You read it every night for two weeks, then every other night and so on until you have weaned them off the book. At present we only read it once a week or so but she stays in bed anyway as that is now the habit. We tell her that the Sleep Fairy doesn't come every night anymore as she's helping other little girls who don't stay in bed. Hooray!
